Louis for Welfare Officer – Let’s Thrive Together.

Junho Daniel Chey

Hello! I'm Daniel, a first-year Mathematical Computation (MathComp) student, aspiring to be your next Welfare Officer for the UCL Fintech Society.

Serving as the MathComp course representative has deepened my understanding of the significance of inclusivity and diversity in academic communities. The unique positioning of Fintech, at the intersection of Finance and Computer Science, might unintentionally sideline students from varied academic backgrounds, potentially diminishing the diversity that fosters innovation.

My work as a course representative unveiled a disconnect between MathComp and the broader Computer Science community, highlighting a challenge in ensuring all students feel represented and valued. This experience was pivotal, underscoring the importance of every voice, particularly in fields as dynamic and interdisciplinary as Fintech.

As your Welfare Officer, I am committed to eliminating barriers to participation, ensuring the Fintech Society is a beacon of support and inclusivity. My goal is to cultivate an environment where students from any discipline can explore the wonders of Fintech, feel empowered to contribute, and find a community of like-minded individuals eager to support each other's growth and well-being.

Together, we can build a Fintech Society that not only innovates but also unites and uplifts every member!

Fardowsa Osman

Hi!

My name is Fardowsa, I am a second-year economics student with a passion for FinTech.

FinTech fuses the world of finance and technology, industries I have a keen interest in as an economics student witnessing the increasing importance of technology in our lives. While I like to keep up with fintech news and engage in the sector professionally, having an active role in the society would allow for me to build meaningful connections with like-minded peers and collaborate with my fellow students in an area I am passionate about. I feel it is the perfect environment that breeds innovation and creativity, allowing me to grow and expose myself to diverse perspectives. I am particularly interested in the welfare officer position as it stems from my commitment to the well-being of individuals within society.

I like to immerse myself in the fintech sphere and have actively involved myself in the sector, so a welfare officer position will allow me to also motivate others to do so while encouraging unfamiliar faces to get involved in fintech by cultivating a diverse, inclusive environment. Completing an insight week at Bloomberg meant I was able to build valuable connections with professionals including my mentor, it has been a great learning experience that I would be able to transfer into the role. I am also a student ambassador for SEO London which has equipped me with the skills to support and guide my peers.

I believe my dedication to the welfare of my peers positions me as a well-rounded candidate for the welfare officer

Jan Chow

Hello everyone! I’m Jan and I am currently a research analyst for the UCL Fintech x Blockchain Society project. Having interned at a FinTech startup in Hong Kong before, I deeply understand the full potential of FinTech in the current world.  Moreover, my experience as a FYE for Business Society equips me with good organisational skills and I am devoted to delivering good welfare for our members.

As the welfare officer of next year, I wish to implement the following plans:

Local and global existence: I hope to subsidise our members to be present in some big events across the United Kingdom and potentially the world. An example is the Zebu Live that is happening in the upcoming October. It will also be great if we can have members presenting UCL in global conferences in cities like New York or Singapore.

Socials: I hope to better utilise the current resources to increase the connections between our members. This can include bar socials or game nights, etc.

Transparency and effective spending: I hope to be transparent in the spending of the society in welfare policies and potentially provide more food benefits for our members during our events.

By voting for me, I will use my background, along with my passion to make the Fintech Society a one-stop-for-all society for every Fintech lovers in UCL.
