Yuka Mori

Hello! My name is Yuka and I’m an upcoming 4th year Msci Neuroscience student.

I tried fencing for the first time in my life at UCL Fencing Club in September 2021, and I have enjoyed foil since then.

This year, I am running for a novice representative with three manifestos:

1. Be an approachable committee member for novice fencers.

  • The transition from novice sessions to experienced sessions was challenging for me at first. By regularly attending novice sessions, I hope I can be an approachable member of the club and be there for those who are finding the transition challenging.

2. Collect information about buying a kit from advanced fencers in the club and make it available as a post.

  • I will collect this information from advanced fencers over the summer and make it available as a post at the beginning of next year. The tips from advanced fencers would be helpful for novice fencers who are planning to purchase a kit.

3. Maintain fencing opportunities for novice fencers during busy sessions (September~November)

  • Through introducing non-electric novice-friendly piste, I hope to maintain opportunities for novice fencers to have a chance to fence during busy sessions.

Finally, I would like to use this opportunity to thank the UCL fencing club for developing such a welcoming community for novice fencers. I am looking forward to contributing to the club as a committee member next year and continuing to make positive changes to the club.
