Energy Society: President

Hi!

I am Sneha and am a first year undergraduate student pursuing my degree in physics, mathematics and statistics. I have been the research associate of Energy society this year and have got to research on and understand the new scientific advancements and economic markets in the field of Energy. I have also been actively participating in the society’s events, the Energy debate competition and the Energy Idea Challenge. Being a part of the committee as well as participating in the society’s flagship events have made me understand the motivations and the objectives of society better.

As the president of Energy society next year, I want to continue conducting the events that Energy society has done this year but also add more networking opportunities with industry professionals in the field of Energy. I will introduce group visits to companies and new startups in London in the field of Energy.

I also want to conduct events relating to the use of AI in future Energy markets and add data-driven design-thinking sprints. By collaborating with the UCL Entrepreneurship society, we can conduct more events to introduce an entrepreneurial mindset in the field of future energy engineering and distribution.

My name is Emily, and I am thrilled to present my candidacy for the position of President of the UCL Energy Society.

My enthusiasm for energy began long before my time at UCL, driven by a deep passion for sustainable development and technological innovation. Being the event officer for the past academic year, I engaged in various events and projects, which allowed me to develop a thorough understanding of challenges and opportunities in the energy sector and enriched my perspective and commitment to this community.

Vision:

As your president, my vision focuses on three core pillars: 

1. Innovation: Encourage innovation and research among our members by facilitating projects and competitions focused on developing sustainable energy solutions.
2. Inclusivity: I pledge to ensure that our society is a welcoming space for all students and that creative ideas are encouraged.
3. Impact: By strengthening our ties with industry and academia, we aim to provide a platform to contribute to the evolution of the energy sector. This will not only provide us with real-world perspectives but also open doors for collaborations, networks and employment opportunities.

Action Plan:

• Conduct a comprehensive survey to understand members' interests, needs, and suggestions.
• Launch a series of regular workshops, projects and hackathons.
• Elevate engagement in the London Energy Journal.
• Invite guest lectures from industry and academia.
• Initiate collaborations with other UCL societies and external organisations.
