Computer Science Society: Vice President

I'm Asmita, a current CS student and course representative. Despite my indirect involvement with organising current CSS events this year, I am keen to spearhead new initiatives within the society. The society has a responsibility to build a community that fosters innovation, learning, and collaboration, yet there's a lacking sense of community between cohorts.

I believe it's the power of community that allows us to inspire, support, and uplift each other. Whether through social events, networking sessions, or mentorship programs, CSS should strive to foster meaningful connections that extend beyond our academics. I'm committed to expanding the career-focused opportunities on offer. For example, EFS style spring week panels and workshops but for tech. Through more partnerships, I hope to offer members hands-on experiences, such as company-hosted workshops and visits, and invite academia and industry experts to lead these sessions.Talks should be grouped by themes, and more interactive sessions, such as debates, will involve and engage members further. 

Having been in various leadership positions and managed 50+ students in the past, I am confident I can create a vibrant community within the committee and society, uniting computer science students across all year groups. I hold excellent communication skills, developed over years of debating, Model UN and European Youth Parliament experience. I hope to create an inclusive space where everyone feels respected, valued, and heard.

I am eager to join the committee of the Computer Science Society at UCL as a Vice President because I am passionate about advancing the field of computer science and fostering a vibrant community within the department. I have successfully performed as a first year representative in AI society which has taught me the most intriguing part of Computer Science, which is Machine Learning. I believe that by taking on a leadership role within the society, I can contribute to organising engaging events, workshops, and initiatives that will fulfill the academic and social experiences of fellow students. Additionally, I am excited about the opportunity to collaborate with other committee members to promote diversity, inclusion, and innovation within the society, ensuring that all members feel valued and supported in their academic and professional journeys. Ultimately, I see this role as a chance to make a meaningful impact on the experience of computer science students at UCL and help shape the future of the department.

I am running for vice president of Computer Science Society because I believe I have the experience and skills to support the society in moving forward.

I am interested in enriching the members' experience by helping to organise insightful events and programs to bring students together, and I intend to work both students to determine how best to implement what students want from the society.

I also have my own ideas for new initiatives, such as open source programming projects that students can volunteer to work on, and a forum for students to discuss the comping field.

I am particularly suited to this role, as I have extensive experience of working in societies.

Currently, I am an events executive in CSS and was heavily involved in organising the recent talk with Simon Peyton Jones.

Being part of the committee has given me an understanding on how the different departments within the society operate. This has given me an insight into how best to coordinate with them to be more effective.

Previously, I was in charge of running my School's Computer Science society. This involved hosting weekly sessions teaching students how to code, and organising talks with external speakers.

I also ran my school's debating society, where I hosted and moderated weekly debates between students.

These experiences have given me great insight in how societies work, as well as strong collaborative skills, and so voting for me would mean voting for someone who will be effective

Hi everyone, 

I’m Aditya and I'm running to be the vice-president of the Computer Science Society for 2024-2025. 

Having attended most of the society's events this year, I have developed a nuanced understanding of its functioning. I now feel confident and ready to take on a new challenge by learning how to manage all domains of the CSS.

In addition to my hands-on experience with the society, some of my additional skills include: 

Sound networking skills:
With a large LinkedIn network consisting of individuals from all over the globe, I would be able to publicise the CSS whilst also bringing invaluable connections in the form of event speakers from top tech companies, including Google, Apple, IBM and more.

Leadership experience and teamwork skills:
Having served as president of the CS club in High School, I know how to lead and collaborate with others to achieve desired outcomes. 

The ability to hear all voices:
My experience with working in and managing teams of 100+ members enables me to amalgamate everyone’s ideas into a comprehensive plan of action that will work towards pushing the CSS to reach new heights.
