Alice Jarvmarker Sydenham

I have loved rowing at UCL as both a novice and senior. I have decided to run for senior women’s captain next year aiming to create an inclusive, fun and competitive squad.

Having moved from the novice to senior squad I would hope to make this transition smooth and easy. I believe this could be done through early integration and weights introduction at the start of the year or before the summer to make the transition a bit less daunting. I also hope to cater for everyone within the senior women’s squad offering both more casual and competitive rowing at a range of levels. Catering for everyone will help to create a friendly and positive environment within the squad and club. Additionally, promoting land training in groups will create a fun and motivated environment. Maintaining high standards of land training and encouraging rowers to attend as many water sessions as possible will also help to create a competitive squad.

I have experience leading sports teams and organising events for my school community. At UCL I have led and planned weekly Swedish lessons for the Nordic society. This has taught me a range of transferable skills including organisational and leadership skills which are transferable to the role of senior women’s captain.

I would hope to make a fun and inclusive yet competitive squad with transparent communication between coaches, captains and the squad. I believe I can provide support, strong leadership and be a friendly and approachable captain for the squad.
