Yi-Xuen Tan

Hi there! I’m Yi-Xuen, and am excited to stand for election as President of Biomedical Sciences Society. With a solid background in research and project/team management, I'm dedicated to not just creating meaningful opportunities for all members, but to also make our university experience unforgettable.

My primary goal is to foster support and growth among our members, as well as a stronger sense of community. Not only will this be achieved through social events, but also by rekindling connections with UCL Biomedical Sciences alumni. Picture this: alumni networking and advisory sessions that can provide invaluable guidance for our professional journeys.

Besides that, I recognize the importance of sharing knowledge and resources within our community; to this end, I intend to facilitate study sessions and a family system across all years to offer guidance and support to incoming and existing students.

I aspire to organise events that will enhance our skill sets and enrich our learning experience. This includes workshops and a flagship event where students can interact with current UCL researchers who can provide insights into potential internship opportunities and current research ongoing here.

While I've outlined some ideas, I'm always open to your input - it is your vision and preferences that ultimately shape our collective journey there. Let's build a vibrant, committed community where every member can thrive :)

Manifesto: here

Viola Sciolette

I am standing because I’m dedicated to bringing the biomedical sciences course together. Biomed is a broad and diverse group of people with lots of different things to offer, and I aim to make the transition into biomedical sciences more seamless and create a more connected community within the course. I would love to take on this role because I’m organised, committed and an experienced leader, having successfully led a society and extracurricular groups previously. I have lots of ideas for the directions this society can take, with a balance of both social events and academic events, but I’d also ensure to establish open communication with society members and take on board any suggestions and feedback. Overall, I’m an enthusiastic, dependable and driven individual and I would really appreciate your vote.  :)

Tarini Puri

I was lured into the field of sciences by the simple fact that things continuously evolve with no means to an end. Being someone who likes to be constantly challenged, the sciences felt like a laboratory for my growth and development - consistently igniting my curiosity, passion, and enthusiasm. This penchant transformed into an ardent pursuit of science when I adopted the role of Head of Science and Astronomy Society in my high school. Through the society not only did I arouse the same passion in my peers by disseminating knowledge on a plethora of scientific topics but I was also able to enhance my leadership, communication, and organisational skills. It is with this ardent interest that I wish to take the baton forward and apply for the role of president. This role will open channels for me to be deeply committed to the biomedical community through the provision of networking opportunities — allowing me to form meaningful connections with students of similar interests as well as professional and experts of the field. Moreover, I hope to make a positive difference by organising events, advocating for important issues, fostering innovation within the field, and inviting renowned researchers to broaden students’ horizons and push them beyond their classroom interests. Overall, my wish to stand for the post of president is driven by a combination of personal passion, professional ambition, and a commitment to serving the community and advancing the field of biomedical science.

Karl Dumasia

Hey everyone,

I'm Karl, currently a 1st year BSc Biomedical Science student.

I seek to stand for election as President of the Biomedical Society with the principle aim of improving our overall experience as biomedical science students next year.

I am currently a committee member of the UCL Economics and Finance Society and was previously the president of my sixth form's Medical Society. Through both these experiences, I have compiled a series of diverse contacts in the worlds of medical science and finance. I plan to hold events and bring speakers and firms to the society. These events will help you to gain knowledge of the industry and improve your applications to jobs or further study.

To support younger students, I would seek to implement a 'parent' scheme as an extension of the transition mentor scheme for 1st years. With sufficient demand, volunteer students would be able to help students in the younger years with questions about the course, modules, jobs and give general advice.

Additionally, I would strive to bring the wider course together to promote more collaboration between the different biomed cohorts through social events such as quiz nights, pub crawls, sports events and end of term/ year parties.

I am sure you will also have many more ideas on how we may jointly improve our experience at UCL. I would be grateful for all contributions so that together we can make our course more enjoyable, enriched and supported.

Thank you for your time.
