Diane Villax De Burnay

As a neuroscience student, I've been fascinated about the brain's many mysteries, and psychedelics, to me, are like the ultimate puzzle piece. Understanding how they can alter our neural pathways and how their consumption can be of beneficial use to us is something I'm devoted to. I have always had a keen interest on the mechanisms of drugs and drug addiction, and this is likely a field of research I'd like to dive into once I've completed my studies. Being part of this society for the past year has been great for sparking conversations that stretch our thinking and giving us a front-row seat to the latest research straight from the experts. Next year, I would love the be able to be a part of organising the society's talks to dive deeper into the application of psychedelics and continue the amazing work that has been done this year. Furthermore, I would also love to make it more accessible to students who don’t have a scientific background and want to have a better understanding of the mechanisms of this exciting field of research!

Isaac Herszenhorn Pan

My name’s Isaac and I am a 2nd year Neuroscience student. I have been interested in the clinical significance of psychedelics since the first time I heard about them. I fell so in love with their potential applications that I made them the topic of my high school research project – and ended up at UCL studying neuroscience.

Our society is an amazing community where students from diverse courses and backgrounds can come together and share their interest in these compounds, while also hearing from researchers and scholars about new discoveries and interesting topics.

While my initial interest was driven by my scientific curiosity, being a member of SAP for 2 years has given me tons of fascinating insight into the cultural, social and religious aspects of psychedelics. It is also a place where I have been able to meet people and hear their perspectives, whilst sharing my own.

I want to nominate myself for the role of president to keep making SAP a society where people can have similar experiences. I want to continue the work of previous committee members, while also preserving and expanding our community.

I believe I have the right skills, but more importantly the right motivation to do this. I look forward to using my own experience and knowledge, contributing and collaborating with other committee members, to organize mind-expanding talks, events and socials.

My goal is to continue making SAP the great society it has been, while also doing my best to make it even better
