Sofia Anyi Oliviero

Hello! My name is Sofia Anyi Oliviero. I am really excited to run for the position of Treasurer of Yoga and Meditation society, as I’ve absolutely loved being a part of this society. I started doing yoga when I was 16 to help distract myself from the pressure of exams and it soon became an integral part of my routine. I feel that the YMS community has fostered such a friendly and inclusive environment as I have always felt welcome through initiatives spanning from having a Yoga Family to exciting events such as Puppy Yoga. The work of the current committee members inspires me to carry forward and maintain these standards.

As Social Secretary, I will aim to:

-Organise regular socials for members of the society, for example on Sports Night Wednesdays

-Continue the initiative of having a ‘Yoga Family’, to establish deeper connections with other members of the society

-Ensure more meet-ups are organized aside from those on a Wednesday evening, which include fun activities like café visits, trips around London, board games evening etc.

-Make inclusivity my number one priority so all members feel welcomed, ensuring a comfortable experience

Furthermore, I would want to establish an efficient feedback stream for members of the society to voice their opinions and ways of improvement on events and socials. In this way, members can relay their feedback so we can continuously improve the Yoga and Meditation society, and therefore spend more time organising types of events and socials that will gain the most popularity.

I'm standing for the social secretary because I want to organise fun socials designed to bring people together. Some of my cosy social ideas are paint and sip and brunches, alongside themed club nights. I also want to increase collaboration between yoga society and other societies for social events.

Penny L Kieser

Hi, Im Penny and I'm hoping to be your new yoga society Social Secretary! when deciding what role to apply for I asked myself what difference I wanted to make to the yoga society and for me, I really want to strengthen the sense of community in yoga soc so, social sec seemed like the perfect role for me! My number one goals is to make the society welcoming and accessible for everyone - and heaps of fun ofc!! They key part for me is that everyone feels involved and part of the community no matter how often or little they practice yoga. If elected, I want organise a wider variety of socials so whether you just like a chilled day event, like a pottery painting night or a you're a big goer-outer there's ways for everyone to use our shared love for yoga to meet new people and connect our community while having so much fun! I believe in order to understand what's best for our little community of yogis it's important to gauge what you guys want! So, I plan on running polls/surveys to see what kind of things you want to see from the yoga community. University can get tough at times and a lot of us use yoga as a way to calm both our minds and bodies, but I hope by boosting the social aspect of the society too we can all feel like we are part of a community of people. Overall, by voting me as social sec I will do my absolute best to ensure every member feels valued and has the most fun they've had in a society! Thanks!
