Matthew Phillips Sanchez

I’ve really enjoyed getting back into swimming since joining the fitness squad this year. I’ve found the fitness captains’ advice really valuable, so I’d love to pay it forward and help others on the team. I swam competitively for over 6 years, which means I have a good grasp of technique and will be able to use this experience to help others improve and to write sets. I have already started getting familiar with the work involved with being a fitness captain since I was elected a few weeks ago, and I wish to be able to continue to do so into next year.

I hope to be a friendly and approachable addition to the team who would contribute to the society’s inclusive and welcoming atmosphere, so everyone can enjoy the sessions as much as I have.

Erika Gaillard

Hi all! I'm Erika and I would like to be your new fitness captain. My main goal for this position would be to make the squad environment as supportive and light-hearted as possible, where everyone can feel excited to come swim. I will work to organise sets for all levels so that all members can get the most of out of the sessions. Also, I personally understand that swimming can be an intimidating and stressful sport sometimes but I hope that everyone will feel comfortable to approach me about any problems or concerns they may have as I am always happy to help.

Additionally, I swam competitively before the pandemic hit so I will be available for anyone wanting help to better their technique work or simply wanting to get more comfortable in the water. Ultimately I want swimming with the fitness squad to not only be a great workout, but also a time where each swimmer can enjoy a break from all the university chaos.

Thank you!

Matthew Bittle

Hi everyone! My name is Matthew and I would be honoured to serve another year as one of your Fitness Captains. Over the past 2 years it had been my privilege to help our Fitness Squad grow, in both confidence and ability, and to help our swimmers find a new joy in our wonderful sport.

I've been honoured to serve as your President over the past year and as I take a step-back from that role to focus on my studies (in my final year) I would love to still be able to contribute to the Club. It genuinely brings me so much joy and fulfilment to help you all improve your strokes and I would be grateful if you would allow me another year of fun!

Needless to say I would drive for more pool time for more swimmers with a broad focus on all levels of ability. I hope to be able to re-introduce land training (following some careful budgeting this year) and push towards having some 'friendly' competitions for our comp-aspiring top-lane swimmers.

Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to seeing you at training this week!
