Thomas Luo

Hi everyone, I am Thomas Luo, a year 4 graduate medical student. I stand for the Education Officer to provide academic support for all society members about the anatomy and surgical contents within the MBBS curriculum.

As the Education Officer, I will organise weekly alternating teaching sessions with SBA and OCAPE/CPSA contents for both preclinical and clinical year students. I will also liaise with UCL Anatomy Society to organise anatomy workshops in Term 1&2, primarily covering preclinical contents. For clinical year students I will organise specialty-based anatomy refresher tutorials. I will coordinate with Clinical Skills to provide surgical skills teaching like basic and advanced suturing sessions. I will oversee the production of Surgical CV and Year 1 Survival Guide. I want to invite doctors, especially UCLMS alumni, to give talks about study skills, CV building and surgical careers. Finally, I will help other committee members in organising events, especially international surgical conferences.

I have always been interested in anatomy and surgery. I have previously been in the 21/22 SurgSoc Neurosurgery Subcommittee and have published in the CNS journal Neurosurgery. I am also very familiar with the preclinical curriculum and have previously won the Prankerd Jones Prize in Year 2. I will be in year 5 next year and therefore I can also provide tailored help for clinical year students.

I sincerely hope you can support me to become the Education Officer. Thank you.

Diya Virk

As someone who has benefitted from the preclinical tutorials run by the Education Officers, I would greatly enjoy the opportunity to deliver teaching sessions and workshops.

I am interested in pursuing a career in academic medicine, which often involves teaching and mentoring medical students. Teaching other students while in medical school is a way to gain valuable experience and skills that will help me develop my skillset for this career and gain further insight.

Through my many years of experience working as a private tutor I am entirely familiar with various teaching practices and know that this is something I find incredibly rewarding and can execute at the high standard needed to assist other medical students in their learning.

Luxmi Thayaparan

Hi!

My name is Luxmi, and I'm excited to be running for Education Officer this year. As a member of the Education Subcommittee this year, I've gained valuable experience in creating tutorial slides and working collaboratively with other committee members. I'm passionate about helping students achieve their academic goals and creating a supportive learning environment.

I believe that my experience on the Education Subcommittee and my passion for education make me an ideal candidate for Education Officer. If elected, I will work to deliver high-quality teaching resources and opportunities for all students. My aims would be to:

  • Continue the delivery of regular tutorials on high-yield topics to supplement the curriculum and reinforce key concepts.
  • Expand the availability of educational resources, including videos and interactive quizzes.
  • Continue facilitating mentoring schemes, so that students can learn from each other and receive personalized support.
  • Foster a culture of feedback and continuous improvement by soliciting input from students and implementing changes based on their suggestions.
  • Work closely with other members of the committee to plan and execute educational events and initiatives that benefit all students.

Thank you for reading!
