Savani Sawaikar

Hey, I’m Savani, I’m running for Editor-in-Chief for the Science Magazine Society this year. As an ardent admirer of science and innovation, I believe in our mission to make scientific affairs more accessible to the public so that everyone is aware of the know-how which affects our lives deeply.

Envisioning a magazine with even better reach, we could have groups in our community that can understand the research happening at UCL itself – where members collaborate with Ph.D. students and give a glimpse into their field. This is just the beginning.

My experience as a managing director of a young enterprise company and a writer for the science magazine in sixth form has given me a strong foundation in teamwork, attention to detail, and organisational skills. The positions have equipped me with invaluable skills including facilitating team coordination and truly understanding the impact of timing and events on content engagement. I believe these attributes, along with situational adroitness, are pivotal for an Editor-in-Chief to truly help realise the full potential of the magazine; I think I can bring that to the table.

Through my position, I will foster a creative environment that encourages new ideas and fresh perspectives, whilst inviting more participation from different demographics in the university. Thank you for considering me, I am eager to contribute my skills and ideas to the team and look forward to making a positive impact on the society.

Melike H Temizturk

I’ve served as the Chemistry editor for UCL Science Magazine during its first year in operation, and it’s been the highlight of my time at UCL.

I’ve gained a lot of writing experience which I expected would come with the role, however, I’ve also become so much more comfortable reaching out to academics and speaking with students about a wide variety of scientific issues. In order to balance my studies with my commitments to the magazine, I’ve become more organised. Most importantly, I’ve gained a deep appreciation for the level of team work it takes to run a society as successful as ours.

As Editor-in-Chief, I hope to establish a community of science communicators, to make the scientific advancements that affect us all more accessible. To achieve this, I want to run frequent writing workshops to support people through the writing process. As a new society, especially a scientific one, it can be very difficult to establish a sense of community so we have to be more visible and proactive in reaching potential members. Thank you!
