Oli M T Melzer

Hi! I’m Oli and my pitch to be the next SSEES Treasurer is simple:

I will ensure that the society is always in a healthy financial state. Simultaneously, I will not be reluctant to spend surplus money on exciting events such as the SSEES ball - we are a student society not a hedge fund! We will increase our fundraising potential by introducing a large variety of affordable SSEES merch on a permanent basis.

This year SSEES won best fundraising society award for the effort in support of Ukraine. I am committed to continuing to excel at this goal. Fiscal balancing is important - which is why I have a income/spend budget outline for the coming year, accounting for additional UCL welfare funds.

I have extensive experience in fundraising for events throughout school and separate volunteering projects for charity and an awareness of financial management working for a small business. This experience will help me to manage the financing of a SSEES society which is more active and efficient so that engaging events can be held consistently throughout the year.

I grew up in Myanmar, then moved to Australia and now live in London, and I am a second year PSE student. I have enjoyed my time in SSEES so far and am hoping to include more students in a more active SSEES society.

Yangyang Zhao

Hi,

My name is Yangyang Zhao, an incoming third-year History, Politics and Economics student and I am running for Treasurer at SSEES Soc in this year of soaring energy and tomato prices. Nothing really special about me but here is my manifesto if you are interested in knowing more about me as a candidate for this position:

My main goal if elected is to better budget allocation in a more effective manner so that we could both improve the varieties and qualities of events held in the coming year. That includes,

       - always provide a back-up for any budgeting plans;

       - carefully calculate/estimate the number of event guests so that wastes could be minimised;

       - finding money-saving solutions to different scenarios.

As the head of the student council committee of my secondary school for two years, I was fully responsible for every budgeting and financing task involved in student events such as proms and charity sales. I am aware of those loads of difficulties and challenges ahead working as a treasurer but with these previous experiences I aim to provide the optimal service for SSEES Society if elected as its treasurer for the upcoming year.

(and good luck with all of your exams in May!)

Yangyang

Riza K Mirza

Hi! I'm Riza, your current Welfare & Engagement Officer. During the past year, I've had a blast keeping our IG page slick and running events alongside the BEST committee ever. My goal is to continue to work towards making this society a welcoming and enjoyable environment, which is why I am running for treasurer. I have served on five different societies' committees, including being the SSEES Student Ambassador, and currently as the Projects Assistant for the Student Support and Wellbeing Team at UCL. Our little corner of the university is quite special, and I believe I can use my vast experience to bring out the best in our department. I thoroughly believe our members deserve a space where their voices are heard and valued, and I will work hard to ensure everyone has a positive experience. So don't just vote for me so that our funds are cared for but also because you want to ensure your society is run by someone qualified, trustworthy, and approachable.
