Tommy Jenkins

Hey, I’m Tommy and I’m hoping to promote Jenks from Events to PRES! RUMS has returned from the pandemic with a vengeance and I have been honoured to be part of the team delivering this. If elected, I promise to fully dedicate myself to continue this momentum!

If elected, I plan to:

  • Use my experience as Events VP to ensure that the RUMS 25th Anniversary is the biggestboldest and brightest year ever seen by UCLMS - MED GALA, anyone?
  • Promote INCLUSIVITY at the systemic level by:
    • Reintroducing the Restart Conference, which can amplify the voices of our Networks.
    • Integrating Network initiatives within our sports and socs.
    • The first ever Freshers Mixed Sports Tournament, which will meaningfully celebrate Pride in Sport!
  • Place greater emphasis on our vibrant arts community via the introduction of a RUMS Arts Showcase!
  • Improve Y4-6 engagement with welfare initiatives via:
    • Introducing Clinical Welfare Reps at each site.
    • Holding a referendum to introduce the role of Clinical Welfare Officer.
  • Lobby UCLMS to:
    • Make better use of Y4 IOM to smooth the transition to clin studies, which has been particularly difficult for cohorts whose Y1-3 studies were affected by Covid.
    • Increase transparency in assessment, feedback and the curriculum, which I have already started through initiating the:
      • Development of a Y4 formative AKT.
      • Integration of a 'Core Drugs List' into ASR.

Vote JENKS for PRES and let’s get ready to

Arya Toleti

RUMS has had a brilliant year so far, and I want us to keep going in the right direction. That means continuing the amazing work of events & welfare, strengthening our academic network, and driving engagement up with novel events & activities across the board.

If elected I will:

  • INTRODUCE NEW EVENTS & ACTIVITIES. Things like RUMS art competitions, termly welfare days, timetabled student-led talks for preclin years, and even more shows in LT1!

  • INCREASE TRANSPARENCY FROM THE MED SCHOOL. As your Academic VP this year I have learnt a lot about the bureaucracy behind educational reform. This needs to change ASAP which is why we need more student representatives involved behind the scenes to advocate for OUR needs.

  • IMPROVE AFFORDABILITY OF EVENTS. We need to drive down prices as much as we can by subsidising costs, developing good relations with venues we trust, and ditching the expensive “alcohol included” price tag. I also want to improve our scheme for supporting financially underprivileged students who want to come to these events but can’t.

  • WIDEN OUR CHARITY INITATIVE. One thing I feel RUMS can improve on a lot is our charity work. By teaming up with other societies and organisations next year along with implementing fundraising from our own events and merch, I think we have real potential to do good for the world outside RUMS in our own way.

With your vote, let's make RUMS even better!
