Antara Basu

Pi Media's coverage across all three mediums at UCL is unparalleled in its diversity, making it a standout publication. As a writer for Pi Media over the past two years, I have been continually impressed by the calibre of articles produced, a testament to the exceptional abilities of our student writers and the editorial team. Throughout my time as a writer, I have had the pleasure of working closely with Pi Media's editorial team, and I can attest to their professionalism and dedication to excellence. This year, I aim to transition to the other side of the editorial and publishing process and contribute to the team's efforts. With my experience as an editor for Circum Mundum (UCL IR Society Journal), a deputy editor for International Public Policy Review (Departmental Journal for UCL SPP), and an editor for UCL Connect.ed Blog, I possess the necessary skills and expertise to make a meaningful contribution to Pi Media. My goal for Pi Online is to maintain its exceptional standards and offer students a dynamic platform to share their perspectives and insights on a variety of topics. Additionally, I hope to inspire creativity by encouraging submissions of poetry and prose, while promoting diverse cultural expressions.

Aidan T Dennehy

I am standing in this election because I want to continue the progress that myself and the other Online co-EIC have made with Pi Online and to achieve new goals which will improve the efficiency, reputation, and cohesiveness of the branch.

Throughout the last year serving in this role we,

  • Recruited and led a team of fourteen Section Editors
  • Implemented an Editorial section with the goal of bi-weekly publication
  • Revamped the website and increased user engagement by 36%
  • Increased the average article output by over 300%, from 11 articles per month to 34
  • Led a weekly newsroom to set commissions, decide on Editorial content, and coordinate the Online team

If I was able to serve as co-EIC for a second year I plan on,

  • Establishing a letters to the editor section
  • Increasing the news writers content output
  • Planning socials to encourage writer participation
  • Continuing the weekly newsroom and commission system we established this year

I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to stay on as Online co-Editor in Chief. I truly enjoyed serving in this role over the last year and am very luck to have worked with amazing people in the Online section and on the rest of Pi's committee. I hope I can be apart of carrying over the friendly and productive spirit we cultivated over the last year into the next.

Tricia Teo

My name is Tricia Teo and I'm a second-year student studying Politics / International Relations BSc. I'm interested in this role because of my current plans to go into fashion journalism and/or publishing, and I would like to build upon my experience as an editor.

I'd like to nominate myself for this role because I recently started my role as the co-section editor for the culture column and have been really enjoying it so far. I would like to be more involved in the overall editing process and overseeing the online commissions Pi Media publishes. I have had previous experience interning at a newspaper, which greatly increased my interest in digital storytelling and media, especially how media can be used to garner interest towards otherwise unknown or overlooked stories and events. I also hope to encourage more people to write for Pi, and share our articles with a wider audience.

Rhys Guerrier

Hi, I’m Rhys, and I would love to be the Online Co-Editor-In-Chief next year! I have been extensively involved with Pi Media since I came to UCL – both as a writer and a News Editor – and I would love to further play a part in Pi’s crucial role within the UCL community as the source of insightful, high-quality journalism that resonates with students.

Some of my plans as Online Co-EIC include:

1. Continuing to have dedicated teams of writers for each section to ensure a consistent output.

2. Holding regular meetings with editors and writers to build a supportive and encouraging community. Here, we could brainstorm article ideas, share ideas and opinions about Pi, or just have a chat with fellow Pi members!

3. Arranging journalism masterclasses with visiting journalists. These would cover specific skill sets like interviewing and long-form writing, certain fields like political journalism, or networking and getting internships/jobs.

4. Creating a Photojournalism section where members can publish photo essays.

With experience in both writing and editing online articles, I believe that I have the necessary skills to co-lead Pi’s online section next year. I understand both writers’ and editors’ perspectives, and the importance of cooperation and support throughout the writing process. Working with co-editors and contributors, I will make sure that Pi Online continues to be a space where students can remain informed, as well as express themselves and be heard.

Thank you!

Coco Kemp-Welch

I’ve had my fair share of experience writing articles, mainly pretentious Arts student ones with a few feminist war crying ones thrown into the mix, and I’ve been lucky enough to spend a bit of time ‘behind the scenes’, as it were, editing a few articles from my school’s magazines. Yet, despite my constant flex that I know Anna Wintour (through the Six Degrees rule) and have spoken to some random bloke at the BBC, I really am dying to broaden my journalistic knowledge by applying to be a co-editor in chief.

I was lucky enough to have my article published in Pi Media’s Term 1 Magazine, ‘Progress’, which was a wonderful experience and got me interested in doing other aspects of journalism within the society, too. Despite writing and editing and having my poem published in the Women’s Wrongs Zine ‘Mommy Issues’, I have not had the chance to be something as Important and Exclusive as co-editor in chief. Doing this with the online segment of Pi Media would be an interesting change from what I’m used to, but certainly an exciting and appreciated difference!

While I have the most experience writing out of anything else, I have edited individual articles before and now would love to be part of something bigger. Not just aiding the flow of others’ writing but devising a production of sorts: making critical choices and executive, creative decisions. The idea of building something completely original under my and my co-editor’s supervision is a marvellous prospect!
