Dear member of the society,

If you are to elect me as your President, I have no doubt that I will be just one, temporary part in what constitutes MSOC. Instead, I hope my ideas and plans can contribute to what will likely remain permanent for many years to come. What I allude to is the fact that the UCL Malaysian Society is predicated on providing you a way to feel at home in your time at UCL. This is the core of what drives past and future committees to plan and improve events as a means of achieving that end.

We all feel a desire to reconnect with the Malaysian community on different levels. However, no matter where you lie on that spectrum, I want to emphasise that UCL MSOC exists for you.

Attached here is my manifesto, which include ideas that hinge on internal improvements for MSOC that ultimately tie in to your experience. I believe my experience as organising chairperson in the RD programme and my character will lead me to be successful, and I hope you’ll consider voting and placing your trust in me as the right candidate for the role.

Thank you and have a wonderful day

Cynthia Ng Xing Ting

For the past few months that I joined the Malaysian society, I have never felt a greater sense of belonging and comfort in London. The society makes me feel safe and welcomed during my first year here in a country that I have never lived in before.

Even though running for the president can be a significant responsibility, it is an opportunity for me to serve the members and give back to the community for what they have provided to me. I want to contribute to the growth of the Malaysian society, carry on the mission of making the society a home away from home for others.

I chose to stand for president because I am passionate about the society's mission and goals, I believe I can bring positive changes and improvements. Being a president requires strong leadership skills, dedication, and a willingness to work collaboratively with others to achieve common goals and I trust that I am a suitable candidate for that. Not very important, but I really love talking to people (so talk to me pls x) and listen to their side of story hence I am open to any suggestions for the society.

As a president, I wish to foster stronger relationship, connections and sense of belonging alongside with the other committee members within the community.

If you read until this very end, firstly, big hugs, and lastly, have a look on my manifesto if you want to know more about my missions and visions for MSoc!

Have a wonderful day! x

Alysta Lim

To me, the Malaysian Society is not just a society but a family of other individuals who are in the same position as myself — away from home. Seeing that feeling lonely and homesick is likely in this situation, I am determined to bring some part of Malaysia to my fellow Malaysians in UCL. I am passionate to make MSoc a place that Malaysians can seek refuge in when they are craving the warmth and familiarity of home.

On a skill-based level, I have had many experiences in leadership roles, and I find that I genuinely enjoy the responsibility, time management, and dedication that comes with these roles. I have always been someone who devotes my all into everything I do, and MSoc will definitely be no different.

Having participated in the RD program, I understand that the president’s duty should be to not just lead, but support and be prepared to help out the team whenever needed. As president, I will guarantee that the BOD works not as separate individuals, but rather in unity to deliver success to MSoc as a whole.

Bryan E Yan Lim

I am running for president of the Malaysian Society in UCL because I believe in the importance of fostering a strong sense of community among Malaysians at university. As an international student myself, I understand the challenges and opportunities that come with studying abroad, and I am committed to ensuring that all Malaysian students at UCL feel supported, valued, and connected to their culture and community. As president, I would work closely with the committee and members to organize events, workshops, and activities that celebrate Malaysian culture, promote intercultural exchange, and provide opportunities for personal and professional development. I would also work to strengthen ties with other student societies and organizations to promote greater collaboration and engagement across the wider university community. Overall, I am excited about the opportunity to lead the Malaysian Society in UCL and to contribute to a vibrant and inclusive university experience for all Malaysians at UCL.
