Hey, I'm Penny and I'm hoping to be your new Labour Society Socials and Community Officer! When deciding what role to apply for I asked myself what difference I wanted to make to the labour society and for me, I really want to strengthen the sense of community in labour soc so, social and community officer seemed like the perfect role for me! My number one goal is to make the society as welcoming and accessible for everyone as possible, ensuring everyone feels involved and part of the community we have. If elected, I want to boost the social aspect of the society by organising a wider variety of socials for everyone to participate in, whether its more Labour Party focused events like different speaker/parliament visits and on campus activism or more chilled sociable events to simply strengthen our community of likeminded people! Perhaps, even introducing mixed society events with other political societies for formal discussions. In order for the society to best grow, I will run polls/surveys (democracy ofc) to see what kind of events you want to see from your labour society. For me, this role will be all about ensuring everyone feels valued and part of a community whether you are a long-standing member of the party of simply want to a safe space to explore new ideas, I will guarantee there is something for everyone! :)
