Hi I am Aditi, a Second year Law student standing to be your Welfare Secretary. Despite being a complete newbie, I wanted to try singing and I was pleasantly surprised to find a warm and welcoming community at the Jazz society. Joining the choir sessions have had a positive impact on my over mental wellbeing, and has definitely made my Tuesday evenings a lot more Jazzy. I would like to give back to the society for providing me with a lighthearted space to explore my interests, without any judgments!

My focus: Improving Accessibility.

I have 3 proposals:

1.Sending out Bi-weekly feedback forms- Gather concerns surrounding physical/mental/social aspects that pose as barriers into integrating better into the society. Helps collect feedback that can improve diversity and accessibility within the society and enhance member experience.

2. 020 Well-being chats (Confidential setting)- Arrange appointment on a bi-weekly basis through link on newsletter, to chat with me about any concerns surrounding your experience at the society, or any overarching support you may require from us. I am also open to having a casual chat, so feel free to reach out!

PS: I’m a Trained Mental Health First Aider and Peer Supporter at UCL and believe I'm well equipped to support you in this way!

3. Bi-weekly/weekly updating of Wellbeing resources: Including, Mental health support services, Harassment & Bullying support and fun Wellbeing/Yoga/Meditation sessions at UCL!

Thank you!

Saffron S Rajappan

Hey everyone :) My name is Saffie and I am currently a 3rd year medic. I only joined Jazz Soc this year but have absolutely loved every minute of it. Big Band has been brilliant in so many ways and I know the friends I’ve made are going to last a lifetime.

I think that welfare is really important, not only as we are all students at an academically challenging university, but also so that we can enjoy Jazz Soc and all the amazing events they put on. It’s always great to be on your best mental and physical form!

As welfare sec, I’d hope to be a friendly and familiar face that anyone can talk to whenever they need advice or support (and even if I’m not welfare sec!). I have gotten to know a lot of the support services the university has to offer during my time here, and would be keen to run welfare events (both Jazz-based and otherwise, i.e. mug painting, socials, and drop-in sessions).

Thanks for reading and good luck to everyone running :)
