There are very few people who love UCLWHC as much as I do, which is why I’m excited to be running for president. As a lot of you take pleasure in telling me, I don’t do a real degree, so I’ll have all the time in the world to keep on top of pres-related admin and keep the club progressing upwards.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my year as captain. The confidence I have in myself and my decisions improved and I gained responsibility on behalf of others which I would like to develop next year as president. I’m organised and level headed and I hope that I created a supportive and enjoyable atmosphere which I want to continue to maintain across the whole club. The dynamic of the 2s this year is quite different to last year due to the huge intake of freshers, so it was a learning curve that I overcame when forming friendships in the team as well as realising how to assert more direct leadership when it was needed.

What are the main things I want to do as president?

Work closely and check in regularly with other committee members. Ensuring they have all the information they need or how to access it. Continuing to adjust goals as the year progresses. In particular:

  • Check in with captains weekly, focusing on LUSL, mixed and reading week games so we can sort not having enough players asap. I faced multiple issues at the start of the year, from dropping out of LUSL to filling out play-under-protest forms so I quite literally know the BUCS regulations inside out.
  • Working with previous committee members to decide on the best way

UCLWHC has been an integral part of my UCL experience and am I proud to be running for President.

My mission will be to developing a supportive, inclusive, and competitive club environment for all teams and with your help we can achieve this. Key areas I will focus on:

  • Committee: prioritize building a close-knit committee who is committed to their roles and responsibilities. Weekly meetings.
  • Training: improving training and coaching by collaborating with captains to increase training quality and attendance (i.e., getting used to new coach/developing a new training structure). Ensuring clear pitch and training times.
  • Kit: increasing funding for essential kit to be paid for through the membership fee
  • Welfare: ensuring our welfare team are known and play an active role in looking after the mental health and wellbeing of our members
  • Media: regularly informing members with essential news and weekly round ups. Making the UCLWHC more visible to UCL through social media to increase our memberships numbers
  • Volunteering: organising monthly volunteering activities for the entire club. Increasing accessibility to hockey by holding community hockey sessions for external participants
  • Funding/Sponsor: collaborating with the Treasurer to increase funding (i.e., applying for grants and further external sponsorships). Working with our sponsor, TPICAP, to host joint networking events and sustain a strong relationship.
  • Ensuring a smooth transition
Isadora M Rawlinson

Over the past two years, this club has revolutionised my life; giving me a sense of purpose, commitment and confidence both on and off the pitch. I have been Tour Sec this year and I have navigated the union, committee and what each member wants to organise a (hopefully) great experience. My organisational and interpersonal skills enabled this, and by being on committee and contributing to decisions, I believe I have proven how diligent and dedicated to this club I am. I enjoyed this responsibility and it has proven to me that I pay attention to detail, I can meet deadlines and work well with others. I have been consistently committed to the 2s for games and training, and been present at socials creating strong relationships with the other teams as well as the Men's club will help me to work cohesively with both committees.

A key to effective presidency is continuing the amazing work of your predecessor, therefore a big target would be to ensure the integration of this year is maintained. I also hope to tackle administrative issues early, improve weekend game and training turnout, changing the RUHC league, reinforcing committee relationships and coaches (maybe replacing 1/2s, but importantly getting a 3/4s). I will go into detail for how I want to target each of these at AGM.

Being able to implement these targets by being elected into this role would mean the world to me. I hope to inspire your confidence in me as your President, as this club had given me over the years.
