Ichika Aradono

Hello, my name is Ichika, and I am a soon-to-be third year student studying BSc Cancer Biomedicine.

I have been working for the Genetics Society since Year 1 as an Associate Officer and Year 2 as the Treasurer. I have been actively involved in planning both academic and non-academic events, all of which required thinking about the welfare, safety, and inclusivity of participants. Building on these experiences, I believe I will be able to add insights to the careful planning of events for this Genetics Society.

I strongly look forward to being granted this opportunity to contribute to the welfare of the Genetics Society, by helping the society to plan insightful and inclusive events throughout the year!

Thank you very much for your consideration!

Honor D De Oliveira

Hello, I'm Honor, a second year Cell Biology student.

I am running for the position of genetics society welfare officer because I'd love to be a part of the committee next year! I really enjoyed my time in genetics soc this year as it was a great way to get to know new people, gain career skills and hear from some really interesting speakers (both ucl students and external!). I found the society really welcoming with friendly committe members and I would be committed to helping continue this next year.

I have been welfare and volunteering and outreach officer for the UCL Music Society this year which I have found really rewarding and is why I would like to be a welfare officer for genetics society next year. As someone who was extremely nervous about coming to university myself I would like to be able to support anyone who might be struggling, need some extra support, or who just would like someone to chat to! Some of the things I have done in my welfare post currently include sending out and responding to termly 'well-being wednesday' questionnaires and signposting myself to anyone who needs extra support.
