Wonjun Lee

After returning to the UK following my gap year, I noticed the rise of challenger banks like Monzo and Revolut and became intrigued. As a long-time user of direct bank transfers, I was eager to learn more about these new alternatives to traditional banks. Eventually, I joined UCL’s Fintech Society as both a correspondent and FYR, and this experience challenged my long-held career goals. Writing articles on Fintech topics for the FTR and collaborating with students of diverse disciplines helped me realize the true complexity and multidimensionality of Computer Science. This opened up a world of new possibilities and led me to the extraordinary field of quantitative investment.

What draws me to quantitative investment is the fact that its true capabilities are still being discovered. I am excited about the potential of employing Machine Learning techniques to develop a strategy that can make even more accurate predictions than humans and automate time-sensitive tasks. I have no doubt that becoming president of the Fintech Society at UCL will be a major stepping-stone towards this goal. Through leading the society, I also wish to influence fellow enthusiasts to join me on this collective journey through the evolution of the financial world.

Saket Chadalavada

After thoroughly enjoying my time as Executive of Outreach in FinTech Society, the opportunity of becoming President fills me with tremendous enthusiasm.

Co-managing a start-up event with Pareto Economics and Adakas and being offered an internship best showcases my ability to impress. Currently, leading a team of two to create a week of talks, packaged as DIF: Diversity in FinTech. Personally, I believe promoting opportunities for women and BAME individuals in finance must be integral.

Next year, I endeavour to:

  • Firstly, continue reaching out to executives of FTSE 100 companies and putting on talks for the members of FinTech Society.
  • Connect schools with UCL and FinTech companies. We will provide coding and finance lessons - taught by UCL’s very own - to children with a passion to work in FinTech.
  • Organise UCL FinTech Conference/Flagship Event, enabling our members entrance to the top-most technology firms.
  • Penultimately, continue with projects like DIF and SWIT, advancing women and BAME representation in the financial technology sector.
  • Finally, we are working on attracting new members to achieve exceptional year-on-year member growth that makes us Europe’s Largest FinTech Society.

I will continue reaching out to all London universities to ensure the highest quality events for our members. If this is what you want from FinTech Society, then please vote for me.

Thank you,

Saket Chadalavada.
