Jessie Cho

As an English student, I’ve always been so proud of our departmental society––it’s truly refreshing to see everyone explore our love of this language through these exciting ways!

As president, I would like to showcase how diverse English can be. Thematically speaking, we can include more racially diverse texts and media in events such as film nights. We can also work more closely with other departmental initiatives such as the postcolonial and feminisms reading groups to create a more inclusive approach to English.

Other than hosting well-loved events last year, I would like to organise fun events we haven’t had the opportunity to try, such as book crawls, poetry workshops, and themed Readathons (etc!)… Moreover, while continuing successful collaborations with societies like FilmSoc, I’d like to expand our topical interests by collaborating with subject societies related to English (such as history and philosophy) to explore interesting overlaps in our respective fields.

I am well-suited for the role of president. Being a CAS project leader in sixth form and an academic rep in first year, I am equipped with the leadership and managerial skills required to lead a committee. I enjoy teamwork greatly––I especially love collaborating with like-minded people to make a difference together!

If I were elected, I promise to organise a year full of activities that are fun, relaxing, and insightful for our thriving community of English-lovers!
