Baking Society: President

Hi, I’m izzy and since joining baking society at the start of my 2nd year at UCL i’ve loved sharing my bakes online and well as in person with friends and family. Since getting into baking i’ve found social media a great source of inspiration for recipes, tips and tricks and i think helping others both access and share new ideas would be one of the best ways to keep the society connected. As someone who only joined her first society this year, i know it’s not always easy starting up conversation in a room full of new people -even if you know you’re all there because you share a hobby or skill- which is why I think it’s so important that every society has an accessible and consistent social media presence. After spending far too much time scrolling through baking blogs, tutorials and instagram accounts (and also insisting on conducting mini-photoshoots with every baking session) i’d love to help provide this for UCL baking society in the coming year as social media officer. Although i’m DEFINITELY no pro-baker and so i think for others who might feel a little cautious about joining the society (as i was back in September) it’d be reassuring to see a very mid-tier baker like myself on the committee to give others the push they might need to try something new. 

Being the current UCL Baking Society President has really enriched my university experience and challenged me to lead and direct a society that shares the same passion for baking that I do. Ever since I joined bakesoc in 1st Year, the fortnightly bake sharings and ad-hoc crawls, bake sales and events have always been a source of joy and comfort for me and I hope to continue bringing this experience for current and future bakesoc members! Carrying on from this year will be a privilege and I hope to fulfill even more exciting plans in the coming year such as baking classes, bakery giveaways and discounts and just continue to create an atmosphere of like-minded bakers and friends who enjoy each others company!
