I would love to be your Welfare and Education Secretary next year! RUMS Tennis has been a huge part of my University experience and I'd like to help ensure everyone in the Club, fresher to finalist, feels supported, included and welcomed.

WELFARE - I feel I am approachable, an active part of both sport and social sides to the club and a familiar face, which I hope would ensure members feel comfortable coming to me about any issue, big or small. Especially given my RUMS Committee experience, I am aware of support services available and how to help members access these. I'd also organise a range of welfare activities throughout the year, (eg baking, knitting, pottery painting...) that are accessible to all members and would hopefully include members who may not attend the more 'traditional' events, helping bring more of the club together.

EDUCATION - I'd ensure there are more regular tutorials across all the year groups (especially clinical years), and would run some with other RUMS Clubs. In addition to organising the finalists' mOSCE, I'd be keen to arrange a 4th and 5th year mOSCE to help more year groups feel supported for their studies and exams. Having completed 4th year before starting this role, I'd have a better understanding of what it involves and would be well-equipped to help with pre-clinical and clinical years' education. I'd also create a RUMS tennis iBSc list to help Y2s with iBSc choices.

I am very happy to take questions and suggestions!

Kabir Khanna

RUMS Tennis is a wonderfully welcoming community and I want to help maintain that culture at our club.

Student wellbeing has long been an interest of mine (a terribly cliched sentence, I know). I've been director of Medics4Medics this year and on the committee for the past two years and have gotten a decent gauge of the concerns that we have in the RUMS community. I'm really happy to have a chat if anyone has something troubling them and I like to think I'm pretty friendly and approachable, so my door will always be open. Next year, I'll hopefully be going to squad training (assuming my body doesn't fall apart once again, which is admittedly a big ask), so I should become a familiar face to those of you in the society that I am yet to meet. It can be intimidating joining a close-knit society, especially with things like sportsnight. I'd like to organise an event bringing the freshers and preclins together early in the year, getting them familiarised and comfortable earlier on.

As for education, I'd like to hold joint tutorials with other societies. I know teaching experience is really useful to have for older years, and it would be great to have as many younger years benefitting from these as possible. The mock OSCE was a big success this year and I'd like to build on that too.

RUMS Tennis has been a real positive in my med school journey and I'd love to give back to this club by being your welfare and education rep :)

Lotsa love, kabs x

Zahra Ahmed

I was welcomed into RUMS tennis with open arms into the most friendly RUMS club. RUMS tennis is a supportive community with some of the most fun people I have met at UCL. I want to continue to make RUMS tennis an environment where everybody can be themselves (no matter what their tennis ability is). By being welfare sec I will use my yoga and mindfulness experience to promote positive wellbeing in RUMS tennis and by being education sec I will help everybody flourish off the court academically by organising regular tutorials and support groups. Vote for Zahra for a happy & healthy RUMS tennis.

Max J B Reinstein

In order for a society progress, we must be united in our efforts to improve and build upon what has already been constructed by our predecessors. As someone who takes both academics and fun very seriously, I can contribute to the society’s development profoundly, with the end goal of getting our players to make smarter decisions on the court. In addition, as someone who looks out for others and only drinks occasionally, the Welfare role appropriately suits my personality.

My Education aims:

  • Deliver the BEST tutorials to our beloved pre-clinical students
  • Organise OUTSTANDING tutorials for all clinical students by consulting my fantastic fellow final & fifth year friends
  • Develop the greatest stations in the traditional RUMS Tennis mOSCEs to ensure our final years pass their exams with flying colours
  • Create a mentoring scheme within the club to help our freshers settle in with difficult topics such as anatomy and pharmacology

My Welfare aims:

  • Promote an all inclusive and social society with great vibes only
  • Team up with the Social Secs to organise ‘Games Night’ to increase inter-year bonding and social opportunities
  • Ensure that no students feel bullied or discriminated against, with quick and appropriate action if needed
  • Social media posts of positive, inspirational, and supportive welfare resources (including RUMS Tennis memes)

Lastly, a quote: “Maxi, you’d be the best [welfare and] education secretary!” - Bianca E, 2022
