Sri Lankan Society: President

Ayubowan/Vannakkam my name is Hiruni, I am running for presidency of Sri Lankan society. I am studying economics with a year abroad. In terms of hobbies, I love going to the gym, cooking and obviously watching Netflix! As a fellow island girl, I am proud of the Sri Lankan culture and would love to bring together the community at UCL. I want to create a warm, welcoming environment for Lankans and non-Lankans!

In terms of events for next year, we want to go full out! We want to hold events during Freshers week, so that everyone can socialise and find friends. For e.g. – hold a ‘Meet your machan’ programme, where everyone is buddied up to an aiya/akki. Also, hold more nights out with the society, and join other Sri-Lankan societies at other unis for big nights out and formal events too! We are planning to organise a big event to bring all the Lankans in London together! We also plan to hold smaller, more regular events such as games night, Kandyan dance workshops, meet ups to eat mutton rolls and kothu, and even hold cooking competitions!
