Candidates

Charlie Hofer

My name is Charlie, and I am a second-year human sciences student. I believe as vice president I can contribute a lot to UCL Snowsports, and have the skills, experience, and commitment necessary to efficiently carry out the role.

This year I have been a devoted member of the club, competing in every competition in both racing and freestyle. My current role as freestyle captain has involved organising trainings and competitions, along with encouraging as many people as possible to give freestyle a try. I demonstrated my pragmatism and adaptability by efficiently organising training sessions at the beginning of the year, despite being a new member of the club myself. During this time, I managed to grow interest in the freestyle side of the club, with drastically more people of all abilities turning up to freestyle sessions. Growing the freestyle side of the club is something I would be keen on continuing next year, along with utilising my experience as a level 2 ski instructor at trainings to help people improve. My role as freestyle captain has also given me valuable committee experience whilst demonstrating that I have the required organisation and leadership skills to be a key part of committee.

Snowsports has been a huge part of my university experience. I have thoroughly enjoyed being on the committee this year, and would love to continue as vice president, providing others with the same great experience which I have had.

Joel Goddard

Hi, I’m Joel, current VP, and former Social Sec of UCL Snowsports, and I would love to be your VP again next year! Both my roles have given me great experience and knowledge of the club that I can take forward, helping the new President and committee. There are also initiatives that I want to spearhead with other committee members, on top of all my other duties. These include

  • Creating more tasters and non-sportsnight social events at the start of the year to engage more new members; such as the trampoline social, to introduce people to the concept of freestyle and get them involved
  • Suggestions form for all members to submit ideas or thoughts to committee, giving all members a chance throughout the year at having a voice in what the club does (also a welfare form for reporting incidents anonymously)
  • A club photo storage, full of all the best pictures from socials and competitions (like the one I created this year, but on a larger scale)
  • Weekly social round ups! Instagram and Facebook posts with all the best pictures of the week and what went down
  • Monthly newsletter, so all members can read all about the past month’s activities from socials to competitions, as well as a preview of what’s to come

Overall, I believe my experience as VP and knowledge of the club and how it works means I can really improve things, and help the new committee. I hope you’ll give me the chance to prove myself again!

Lana Rawlings

Hey I’m Lana and it would be an absolute pleasure to be your vice president next year. The people I’ve met through snowsports and the memories I’ve made have really enriched my UCL experience and I want to pass this on next year to ensure the club continues to be the inclusive and friendly environment I was introduced to.

I believe I am a good candidate for the role of VP because:

  • I do no actual work for my degree, so I have a lot of time to support the president
  • I have been part of another snowsports club and have attended BUDS since 2017, and I can implement different ideas from my experiences
  • I have proven to be committed to the club by attending competitions, socials and other events throughout the last two terms.

If I were to be elected I would aim to introduce the following ideas:

  • Create a detailed timetable for committee members to follow to ensure things are done quicker and more efficiently. This would also help ensure committee receive help and support with tasks if/when they need it.
  • Contact other snowsports clubs to try and make London snowsports events.
  • Propose ideas in other aspects of the club such as: curry nights, running charity events and introducing ski coaching.
  • Be involved in trip organisation chats with NUCO or Wasteland to help out the president if needed.
