Computer Science Society: President

Greetings everyone! I am Aryan, a 1st year CS Student running to be the society’s President for 2022.

CSS was founded last year by students, who are now in their 2nd year. I want to take their initiative forward and make CSS even bigger. I believe I can, and am confident that I will. My school did not have a CS society either. I was driven to open one, and I did. As soon as it was created, the pandemic struck. I worked harder—150 students joined, we hosted an intra-school tech week, and then a nation-wide competition with over 50 participating schools, all in the founding year. 

If elected, priorities would be:

Develop Open-Source Projects: Long-term projects, allowing to learn about open-source development, contribute to a project, and build CV.

Conduct Mock Interviews: Based on different patterns of each company.

Strengthen Our Community: Host networking events, gaming sessions, bar socials.

Make your Voices Heard: A feedback driven society where each opinion is valued.

I know I’ll be able to make it all happen because I connect with it. As the founder of my school’s CS society, the toughest part for me was letting it go and handing it over to the next cohort; the fear of the society's future, the society that had a successful first year. I believe I can responsibly lead the society for you, and provide a dependable community where everyone —beginners, experts, introverts, extroverts— get opportunities that they can benefit from.

Being a student of computer science, I can understand the expectations students have from their department’s society. I clearly understand the duties of a president, and I am ready to give all my time and effort for this role, no matter how intensive it gets. I am standing for the role of president as I know that I have the potential to really transform this society and bring it to be one of the best societies here at UCL. I already have loads of potential ideas for different kinds of fun events that could take place in the next academic year. I also want the students to be more involved with the Computer science society throughout the year, and I want people to realize that being a part of this society is not only a fun thing but can also be very beneficial for their careers. I can prove my confidence and potential as I have always been a leader since high school, from being the anti-bullying cadet of my school to organizing large-scale school, and national events. I have been the lead organizer, and a volunteer for a lot of events, and I know what it takes to be on the organizer's desk-the number of problems that could arise, the brainstorming sessions for a new event idea, fund management, speaking to sponsors, etc, I have done it all. I am a highly motivated, and hard-working person, and I easily fit the qualities that a president or a leader must-have. I am standing because I know that I can bring change to this society and lead it with utmost honesty and sincerity.

Having worked for the past year as the Marketing Executive of the Computer Science Society, I have gained insight into the direction that the society should grow in order to strengthen and broaden the community that we have created this year. During my time on committee, I was in frequent communication with members of the society when advertising events and managing social media accounts, allowing me to develop a strong understanding and connection to our members. My experiences have also taught me the things we could have done better this year and I am eager to work within the next committee to maintain momentum and pass on the lessons we have learned as a new society.

I am currently leading the development of our merchandise, which has required me to work with external manufacturers and designers as well as our own committee members to coordinate the project and keep to deadlines. My experience in leading our merchandise project has taught me leadership skills within a committee setting which I believe will translate well into the role of President. 
 

It has been a pleasure nurturing and shaping the society into what it is today and it would be an honour for me to continue working as part of the committee to guide and facilitate the growth of our community. To continue providing meaningful resources and opportunities for students in the CS department while being there for our members as a support network when challenges arise.

Hi everyone,

I am a third year computer science student and I have really enjoyed being a member of CSS this year. If I am elected, I plan to host more regular socials (including free food) and the opportunity to mix with students from other years. Additionally, I plan to host sessions where students in earlier years can speak to older students about certain modules and get advice on which ones to select and which ones to avoid, as well as hosting a CS christmas ball. CSS has been very enjoyable for its first year and I look forward to it evolving next year, whether I am elected or not.
