Danilo Paganelli

Hey everyone! I am Danilo and I would love to be your Welfare Officer for the amazing Bulgarian Society! I have been part of the committee this past year (2021–22) as Welfare Officer, so I will be a great link with helping the next generation of the Bulgarian Society and have lots of experience! I have also been on the committee of a lot of societies, meaning that I have a lot of experience with running societies and  am very passionate about this beautiful country and the amazing language and want to help make the society the most enjoyable for all members!

Things that I would love to do next year:

Organise Bulgarian lessons in the society, so that non-Bulgarians can learn the language and those fluent in the language have the opportunity to teach (and put it on their CVs!)

Create a buddy system so that those in first year can have an elder mentor to help them navigate university and London ?

Support students with anything at all that they need, whether that's resources, help with with extension, someone to talk to or anything at all

Help solve any problems if any issues arise

Be there for all members of the society!

Dara Nikolova

Hey! Did you know that 78% of students experience a mental health problem during their studies? Let’s talk about that.

My name is Dara and I’m a second-year Psychology student. As someone who has suffered from anxiety and depression, I understand well (oh so well!) the negative impact that balancing a degree, extra-curricular activities, and life in general can have on your wellbeing, especially due to the current times. I strongly believe that my two years of experience volunteering with individuals with mental health issues, as well as my mental health journey as a student have provided me with the skill set, experience and dedication to help students improve their wellbeing.

If elected as your Welfare Officer, I would aim to:

  • Organize various activities and socials throughout the year to allow students to have a break from university stress. Ideas I have include movie, quiz and board games nights, Bulgarian food cook-offs, food tours, picnic socials:)
  • Run events in collaboration with other UCL societies and Bulgarian societies in other London universities, with Bulgarian alumni and representatives from different companies coming in to give motivational talks about their university and career experiences

People often speak to respond but I want you to speak so I can listen.:)

I'll do my best to help make the society feel like a home away from home:)

Let's work together to make things better!

Thank you x

Ivan Varbanov

I nominated myself for this role to ensure inclusion and a smooth-running process of all events of the Bulgarian society. I am excited to work collectively with the other members of the committee to build a positive and welcoming environment for next year's members.
