I am standing because I am passionate about surgery. I would love to contribute to the society and use this role as a mode to share my passion and showcase my enthusiasm.

I have particularly enjoyed shadowing surgeons and understanding the range of procedures which encompass oral and maxofacial surgery. I have particularly enjoyed learning about micro-vascular techniques used to transfer free flaps and would love to organise workshops for other students to learn these technqiues and inspire them to pursue a career in oral and maxofacial surgery.

Furthermore, I aspire to pursue a surgery career therefore I would love to network with likeminded individuals and get exposure in the field. I would like to also contact world leading experts in surgery and organise talks so students like myself can learn about the future direction of the feild.

I would also like to gain more experience in organising conferences and improve my communication skills. This role provides a perfect opportunity for me to develop my personal skills while helping other students learn more about surgery.

There is generally a stigma of arrogance and conceit around plastics, however, I wish to showcase its true multifaceted nature through this position. My attendance to the novel interface aesthetics JTMS has allowed me to learn the commercial aspect of plastic surgery and how to translate a medical degree into real life which it omitted from our actual degree. The insight this has given me into real world clinics is immense and, hence, one of my main aims is to convert this into skills workshops (i.e. microsurgery, burns, Botox/filler injecting) and lecture series. Moreover, it has also dismissed this stereotype by showing the holistic nature of plastics i.e. by interacting with burn victims and breast cancer patients. Secondly, I have an already vast network after working int he plastics department of the royal free for the past 2 years on various research projects, shadowing surgeries and also through running their Instagram. I will use this and my avid leadership, communication and organisational skills to expand the webinar series and conference SurgSoc have in place already into a brilliant networking opportunity that will benefit any aspiring plastic surgeons.
