Ash Gangalam

Hi everyone! My name is Ash; I am a second year mechanical engineering student and I am hoping to be your treasurer for the next year at ice club! Ice club has been an amazing part of my year, from the new friendships I’ve made, to the socials on Wednesday nights with deadlines the next day, to the ever lasting shame of falling on my face during shooting drills.

A treasurer is essential for the club to stay afloat and to manage the finances of the club.I am good at overall admin work and I believe that I can be a reliable person when it comes to sorting out memberships, filling the registration forms and making sure everyone has a chance to play. And to also make sure that the figure skating side of the club runs well and receives proper funding. And so to quote our esteemed ex-president Apratim Shastri, 'it's time to give something back'.

If elected, I would like to implement the following:

  • Look into helping finance newcomers who are in a less financially stable position.
  • Get more club kit so that this is something that newcomers will not need to initially worry about it
  • Organising a sick boat party and seeing that the money of the club is spent on events that you all enjoy and would like to take part in
  • Finally cleaning up the kit store cupboard!

Ice club has been a great experience for me. One that I’m so glad I’ve tried. And I believe by being treasurer, I can have a positive impact on the club. And hopefully encourage even more to give it a go :)

Jai Willink

Hi guys,

I joined the Ice Club in January with next to no skills after the Winter season reminded me how much I enjoyed skating, and I'm now doing turns, and basic jumps and spins! I've enjoyed the Club so much this past term, and I really want to give back now by working for you all!

I think I am in a good position to run for treasurer for a few reasons - first and foremost I'm studying maths, so I'm not intimidated by the numbers. I'm also a second year, so I have a lot of incentive to do a good job for the year beyond, and finally I will also be president of another society. This means I'll be able to better understand the perspective of the president, and have access to a lot of transferable skills (even the training is exactly the same!).

I've always enjoyed being in a position where I'm able to help people out in any way I can, including with homework, advice or information on anything I know about, and just generally making people's lives easier. Being treasurer would put me in a position where I would be able to do just that on a larger scale, and for an amazing community which I'm really invested in. Vote for me and see how much positive change we can bring the Club together!

Finally, I'd like to say congratulations to everyone who got the roles they ran for in the main leadership race, good luck to everyone else running for treasurer and other roles in the by-election, and thank you for reading my manifesto!
