Live Music Society: Social Secretary

Hi everyone! I’m Mollie, a first-year Classics student. After coming to the open mic-nights at the Institute and band nights at Phineas, it has been wonderful to listen to an array of talented and gifted musicians.  

Making music is such an integral part of my life and I would love to share this enthusiasm with others! This is why I’m running to be Social Secretary!

What I want to bring: 

• More socials allowing younger musicians to collaborate with and network 
• More informal jam sessions, enabling others to get involved, regardless of the level of experience 
• More events with the potential to create bands and ensembles 

I also think it’s important that we maintain these musical spaces in UCL, where there is a wonderful freeness and lack of judgment. Having had experience performing solo and as part of an ensemble, I understand how crucial opportunities to gain confidence within a community are. I play alto saxophone, piano whilst dabbling in guitar, bass and drums and I would have really appreciated the opportunity to showcase, gain advice and tips from older, more experienced musicians. I'm focused, organised and passionate about creating nurturing musical spaces for growing musicians. 

Live Music Society brings a welcoming atmosphere, focused on participation and having fun. I have had such a great time this year, making memories and music and would love the chance to create more of these experiences with others!

We’ve all seen the low turnouts at some events, usually because socials aren't advertised enough, leaving people feeling a bit hesitant or unsure about coming along. I’m here to change that narrative.

• The LM Holiday: The ultimate post-exam getaway. We’re plotting a trip to a cool destination where we can kick back, vibe, and bond on a fresh summer holiday after exam season wraps.
• Next-Level Socials: No more repetitive UCL-only spots. We’re hitting exciting new venues across London with genre-specific socials tailored to your music taste.
