Amelia Tam

Hi! I’m Amelia, and I’m running for President of the Life Sciences Society.

Over the past year as first-year representative, I’ve seen how great this society can be when it brings people together, both socially and academically. At the same time, I’ve also noticed there’s more we could be doing, such as putting on a wider range of social events, helping people across different years connect, and making sure everyone feels included. Having previously been president of a society at my school, I’ve had experience organising events and working with a team, and I’d like to bring that into this role and help develop what we already have.

If I’m elected, I want to build on what already works while making the society more engaging and useful for everyone. That means creating events people are excited to go to, improving academic and career support, and making sure communication is clear so no one misses out on opportunities. I also want to make the society feel less intimidating, especially for new members. Starting university can be overwhelming, and a good society should help make that transition easier, not harder. I want everyone to feel welcome and that they belong from the start.

I really care about this community and what it can offer, and I’m ready to put in the effort to make a difference to your experience. I would really appreciate your vote!
