Hey everyone! I'm Bella and I would like to nominate myself for the Communications Officer position. I'm a first-year Physics with Medical Physics student and I'm really excited that this society has been founded at UCL.
One thing that draws me to this role is the opportunity to make biophysics something a diverse cohort of people can engage with online. A lot of society pages first assume the interest of their following and mainly connect with people already doing a relevant degree — however, I want to create content not only aimed at STEM students but also that reaches people who wouldn't otherwise think to join.
To achieve that goal I would aim to create visually appealing, short posts — connecting science to everyday life, making it relatable for everyone. Since the biophysics society is still in its early stages, building a strong social media presence is essential to attract future members, and I would be committed to building that strategy from the ground up.
I believe I would be a good fit for this role for a few reasons. I have direct experience creating social media strategies — I developed a content plan for a polo club and led the Instagram page for a clothing resale business that operated as a centralised platform within one city. I've also completed a Fashion Styling and Media course at UAL which taught me marketing, trend analysis, and visual storytelling — skills I would use to create a polished media direction.
Thank you for considering me !
As a Medical Physics student, my main priority would be building a stronger link between the society and the professional world. That means inviting speakers for careers talks, spotlighting different pathways into the field, and connecting members with opportunities/networking events that improve their employment prospects. Alongside that, I'd focus on making our online communications work harder; social media updates, event promotion, and a newsletter people want to read :)
