Eva Hita Sogorb

Hi everyone!

My name is Eva, and I am one of the Vice-Presidents at MedTech UCL. I am running for Technology Officer for the 2025/26 academic year because of my commitment to ensuring that we continue to offer the best tech-related opportunities at MedTech UCL.

This academic year, I secured sponsorship from DataCamp to provide 25 MedTech members with a free full membership to this platform for a year through the DataCamp Donates scheme. If elected, I will continue to develop this scholarship programme, increasing the number of memberships available, and organising events for our DataCamp Scholars to ensure everyone makes the most out of the programme.

Some of the other things I have in mind to improve the tech-related provision of the society are:

  • 💻 More coding workshops, building on our existing and successful current coding workshop series. I want to expand the curriculum to include other topics (such as computer vision) as well as different expertise levels. I also hope to increase the number of sessions in each of the series to ensure that by the end of a workshop series, everyone is truly confident.
  • 💡Hackathons and competitions, as I truly believe that the best way to learn coding is by building cool things. From small in-class coding competitions, to hackathons with industry partnerships, I want to provide hands-on opportunities for everyone to show off their coding abilities.
  • 🌐 Industrial and academic tech partnerships to increase tech-related career opportunities.

Amelia Tai

I am standing for the role of Technology Officer because I am passionate about bridging the gap between scientific innovation and real-world healthcare impact. With my background in Biomedical Sciences, I have seen how technological innovations can transform diagnosis, treatment and patient care. I am drawn to the mission of the UCL MedTech society and want to make a meaningful contribution by providing the platform to connect motivated students with leading MedTech researchers and companies to build a community based on shared interests in the latest advancements in medical technology.  This will not only open doors to networking opportunities but also foster lifelong learning.
From my involvement in planning and executing various in-person and virtual bioscience-focused events (e.g. academic talks, workshops, panel discussions), I have developed strong project management and teamwork skills which will allow me to effectively coordinate the annual conference to a high standard that reflects the society’s ambition. With my past experiences in conducting outreach programs, I am confident in reaching out to inspiring and exciting speakers who can bring insightful perspectives to spark discussions and fuel different interests.
In conclusion, I am excited to contribute to the most anticipated annual technology conference . With my previous experiences and goal-driven attitude, I believe I can add value to the society by bridging valuable opportunities for society members.

Catharina Maschka

Hi! I’m Catharina, a first-year Biomedical Engineering student, and I hope to be your next Technology Officer.

Having grown up in seven countries, I’ve seen firsthand how access to healthcare varies dramatically. From high-tech hospitals to under-resourced clinics, I’ve realised how crucial medtech can be in bridging those gaps. My experiences have sparked a vision I would like to share with the MedTech Society: to harness medtech not only for profit or prestige, but to serve real-world needs, especially those overlooked by traditional systems. For this reason, I want to bring a theme of healthcare equity through innovation to next year’s Technology in Healthcare conference.

As First-Year Rep for the UCL Engineering Society, I helped organise the London 2050 conference, focusing on how AI is shaping the future. Furthermore, I help plan and host countless company-sponsored events, which have given me the social and organisational skills required to pull off large-scale events with influential speakers; skills which I believe are crucial for this role.

Being selected as a Laidlaw Research and Leadership Scholar, I have received significant training on how to lead a team towards a common goal. Therefore, you can count on me to take initiative and provide the time and effort to make next year's conference one that doesn’t just inform, but inspires a future of equitable healthcare innovation.

I’d be honoured to be your Technology Officer with the passion and dedication it deserves!
