Tilly Embra

Hi! I’m Tilly, I study Politics & Sociology, and I’m standing for the position for LGBTQ+ representative of the Gender & Feminism Society because, as a queer woman, representation and education around our community is incredibly important to me✨🏳️‍🌈 - especially in light of the increasing disinformation and prejudice surrounding the transgender community here in the UK 🏳️‍⚧️

If elected, I’d love to introduce:

  •  More socials rooted to queer culture (e.g. collabs with the Drag Society, Ballroom trips)
  • Panel events with people who are engaged in LGBTQ+ activism, as well as more events uplifting Transgender voices.
  • Fundraising events for charities such as Gendered Intelligence and Switchboard
  • Networking opportunities with LGBTQ+ professionals and people working in queer-focused fields (e.g healthcare, media, politics, activism)
  • Film and documentary screenings celebrating queer and feminist stories- like Paris is Burning (1990)

I want to help UCL’s Gender & Feminism Society continue to be inclusive to all and to keep celebrating and representing our community 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

If you like the sound of my ideas, please vote Tilly for LGBTQ+ Rep!💕

Bethan Sullivan

Hi, I’m Bethan — a femme lesbian who is proud to say that I may be the centre of the London Lesbian web. I am more than qualified to be your LGBTQIA+ representative: I’ve worked in a gay club, I have a Sappho tattoo and I am an encyclopaedia of queer media, but most importantly I truly care about the community. As someone who grew in a small deprived town, as the ‘only gay in the village’ I understand the importance of finding a community that both accepts you but shares the same values as you. The Gender and Feminism Society is such an important part of UCL because it creates space for real, necessary conversations about gender, sexuality, and power. It’s a place where we can challenge systems that don’t work for us, support each other through the messiness of it all, and learn from people with completely different experiences and perspectives. At a uni as big and diverse as UCL, having a society that actively pushes for inclusivity, intersectionality, and social justice really matters. As your LGBTQIA+ representative, I’ll bring visibility, accountability, and inclusivity. I will push for queer voices and experiences to be heard and ensure our LGBTQIA+ members eel included and safe in all workshops, opportunities and socials. I’m here to make sure the queer community in our society is supported, celebrated, and slightly chaotic in the best way. Vote Bethan for solidarity, sapphics and a society fit for us all.
