Election post
Hi, I’m Bethan — a femme lesbian who is proud to say that I may be the centre of the London Lesbian web. I am more than qualified to be your LGBTQIA+ representative: I’ve worked in a gay club, I have a Sappho tattoo and I am an encyclopaedia of queer media, but most importantly I truly care about the community. As someone who grew in a small deprived town, as the ‘only gay in the village’ I understand the importance of finding a community that both accepts you but shares the same values as you. The Gender and Feminism Society is such an important part of UCL because it creates space for real, necessary conversations about gender, sexuality, and power. It’s a place where we can challenge systems that don’t work for us, support each other through the messiness of it all, and learn from people with completely different experiences and perspectives. At a uni as big and diverse as UCL, having a society that actively pushes for inclusivity, intersectionality, and social justice really matters. As your LGBTQIA+ representative, I’ll bring visibility, accountability, and inclusivity. I will push for queer voices and experiences to be heard and ensure our LGBTQIA+ members eel included and safe in all workshops, opportunities and socials. I’m here to make sure the queer community in our society is supported, celebrated, and slightly chaotic in the best way. Vote Bethan for solidarity, sapphics and a society fit for us all.
