I want this year to be super social. What better way to do that than become social sec?

I would love to host/organise socials and make going to sportsnight/other events a bigger thing with structure + organisation so more people are likely to turn up. (Plus last week’s sportsnight was super fun and I want to get to know more people in volleyball!)

Why I would be good for the role:

- Previous involvement on commitees (welfare rep for RUMS, Paediatrics events coordinator)

- I have organised conferences, talks and events such as welfare week (we brought in dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs + other cute animals!)

- I am a 4th year student and know a few social secs that I can ask for advice!

Things I will implement:

- Tour!!! I am adamant that I will make tour happen this year for volleyball.

- Make sportsnight/other socials a bigger thing.

- Fun/chill events like bowling/movie nights (could even binge haikyuu together ?)

Ideas:

- Themed socials!

- Joint socials with other clubs (especially a sportsday-style event where we can try out other sports)

- Sober events for those that don’t like to drink (e.g. a board games night)

- A joint social sec position just like the two HEVOs, would be great! Lucy Garside mentioned she would be open for the position! I am also very open for others to suggest ideas/help out too! :)

Jianing Feng

Hi, I am Feng Jianing, a first-year BSc Statistics, Economics and Finance student. I have a great passion for Volleyball, and throughout my eight years of volleyball experience, I have played competitively for six years and socially for two years. During that two years of social volleyball, my love for the sport grew tremendously as I had the most fun playing it with my friends. I would love to be the Social Secretary and organise social sessions for UCL Volleyball to help spread my love for the sport, help more people make great friends, and form meaningful relationships during our social sessions. Vote for me as your Social Secretary. I will do my best to make UCL Social Volleyball Sessions an excellent opportunity for everyone of all skill levels to learn, make friends and, most importantly, have fun!

Eric Xu

Every UCL Volleyball member can understand the feeling of missing out on a ticket for the weekly social sessions. Due to the sheer numbers in this society, there is often not enough space to accommodate for everyone, and people end up losing opportunities to connect with their fellow volleyball players and build strong social networks through the sport. As a social secretary, I would ensure that even if you miss out on your chance to play volleyball with others from the society, there will always be a space for you at weekly social events.

Taking my experience from my role as the welfare officer/vice-president of UCL Education Society, I promise to consistently run social events throughout the term to cultivate a tight community of volleyball lovers. These include outdoor volleyball and picnic (if the weather permits), pizza and games night and of course, themed nights at Phineas and Scala.

If you're looking to make more friends in this society, or just to be more involved with our volleyball community then please consider voting for me!

 Thank you :)
