I have been an active participant in Model UN since I was 14 years old. I have earned a number of accolades in a variety of committees, including receiving the best delegate award 4 times, among others. I was a member of my school’s MUN committee in my final two years of high school. In year 12, I served as the Deputy Secretary General and was then chosen to be the Secretary General of the MUN Club of my high school.
In this capacity, I performed a number of roles. I was responsible for maintaining all administrative aspects of the club, planning meetings for members, training delegates for conferences around India, and organising the conference that was hosted by my school. I oversaw the creation of a training module that would guide new delegates through their first conference. I’m proud to say that many of these delegates won awards in their respective committees.
I have developed a number of skills as a result of this, including leadership, time management, communication, and collaboration.
I am passionate about MUN and my experience demonstrates the same. I believe that this will allow me to contribute in making the UCLUNA a more interactive platform for discussion and debate
I would like to apply for this role because I believe that it is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people, learn new skills, and deepen my knowledge of MUN. I am a beginner but going to the MLMUN proved to me that I’d like to take this further. Being FYR will allow me to learn about the various aspects of UCL’s MUN society, which is something I am ready to embrace. Further, I study Politics and International Relations, making MUN relevant to my academic and career pursuits. My past positions of responsibility have allowed me to develop the crucial skills of teamwork, time management and organisation, which can be implemented as FYR. Also, I am fairly extroverted, as told by my friends, making it easy to connect with people.
Why do you want to apply for this role?
I am applying to this role because I want to be a voice for all first years in the society and shape UCLUNA in a way that benefits us the most.
I will push for reimbursement of delegate fees by the society for the more expensive MUN conferences, more events directly related to the United Nations (such as inviting speakers from the UN), and collaborations with other MUN societies (LSE, KCL etc).
I will ensure that first years are always considered in the decisions the society takes, that your feedback is always listened to, and most importantly that you enjoy your time during training sessions, events, and socials.
Why are you suitable for the role?
As a first year representative, I would be an easy point of contact for all members of the society, whether it is to answer questions regarding UCLUNA or MUN conferences, to hear about your ideas for events/socials, to take into account your feedback on how the society is doing, or just for a chat.
I was head of student government and event management at my school during my last two years. I organised events with the French embassy and French diplomatic corps, a prom with 250 attendees, and multiple talks. I have experience representing peers and I will use that experience to ensure 1st years at UCLUNA have a great time.
I have experience in MUNs: I was a member of staff at the last edition of LIMUN and participated in DESMUN, LSEMUN, and ULMUN. I received awards at DESMUN and LSEMUN.
