As a proud TfL society member I aim to organise events that will attract every single one of you, from socials at pubs to outings and museum visits to more fun challenges, with or without other universities. At the past few society events so many of you had great ideas and not only will I be promoting my own fun ideas but I will select all your best ideas that are feasible and I promise to deliver at least half of those within this academic year. So not only will you be getting my ideas but your own ones too. Whether its museums or obscure TfL and rail history, I aim to cover it all in outings, and try to expand these to allow more of you to come to them too. Since everyone appears to know more about TfL and UK rail than any station staff I've ever spoken to, I think it would be best put to use in pub quizzes, no doubt a fierce competition with cheap (perhaps subsidised) drinks involved. For all those reasons I believe I will be the best candidate for this position, and the one most likely to deliver the events you all are hoping for.
To summarise:
- more outings with more places: museums, station visits, history tours
- open event planning, I'll select and execute your best ideas
- socials and pub quizzes to see who really knows the most
As a new comer in London, I feed my curiosity of the city by taking the tubes. Every time I open the app TFL, the tube map looks like vessels that lead to every end of the city, and by picking up specific stations, I get to know different aspect of London. Thanks to TFL, I discovered amazing places, received free poem anthology for the Black History Month, and get involved in book exchange activities--all of them add spice to my life. That's why I join this society and stand myself out to contribute some ideas about getting more fun with TFL.
As Events Officer, I want to organise many more accessible but still interesting challenges, visits, talks, and more! While my TfL knowledge isn't the best in the soc, I truly love London's transport and want to give the general UCL public more opportunities to appreciate its greatness. I am also very happy to hound the Student Union so we are able to put on more (official) events!!
From tube trivia socials and tours of abandoned stations, to scavenger hunts around the network and visiting heritage railways – the opportunities to interact with TfL’s transport cobweb are a Temple waiting to be explored, and more endless than the stairs at Covent Garden!
You might not have seen me around campus too much, and that’s because I’m Oval-ly excited to be on my placement this year with Siemens Mobility – the guys who, among other things, made the Thameslink trains and are currently making the new tube trains for the Piccadilly Line (trust me, they’ll bring a new vibe to the deep tube when they’re rolled out 😉). This puts me in a position where not only am I building a network of contacts in the rail industry, who could come and talk to us about their work, but Morden that, I’m getting to hear first-hand about transport treats that might be a bit of fun to get involved in!
Of course, although I’ve got a whole Bank of event ideas to bring to TfL Society, I’d always be open to suggestions from everyone, to make sure that you all have a Monument-ally fun time!
Some of us might only be in London for a few years, so let’s step through the Archway and make the most out of seeing the past, present and the future of one of the world's best transport networks.
I am standing because first and foremost, I have a very strong interest in TFL. I have always been fascinated with public transport because of my upbringing in Singapore, where I had the privilege of riding buses and the MRT Metro every day. I would rush for the driver seats on the double deckers, making sure to get the best view. I have brought this interest and passion to London, where I have regularly done TFL activities on my own, such as going to a random station and exploring the area, or trying out different routes when I commute. As an events manager, I will transfer my interests into real activities for TFL society. I will organize tube challenges monthly, with different twists each time. I will organize museum and depot visits at discounted rates, such as going on the Hidden London tours to disused stations or the Acton Town depot with the old tube stocks. I will organize lost railways events such as a walk on the section between Mill Hill East and Edgware, and the Epping-Ongar railway. I will also organize trips on more niche or uncommon railway journeys such as the thrice a day shuttle to the hidden station of Battersea Park or the rare District line shuttle to Kensington Olympia. Along with all this, I will ensure people also learn the history and significance of such parliamentary services. Overall, I want to ensure everyone gets to participate, regardless of knowledge. Appreciate everyone for reading all this, hope you support me in my ambitions. Thanks!
