Salsa Society: Bachata Team Captain

Hi, everyone! I’m running for bachata team captain firstly because I’ve fallen in love with the dance so much, especially having had no prior experience in salsa/bachata – nor in any other dance. It would be my pleasure to give back to the society for facilitating this new passion by helping out with the team.

On that note, I would especially like to represent those that are new to salsa – or dance in general – and show that there are endless things to try out and that in stepping out of your comfort zone, you will be able to grow in confidence.

A few things I would like to do as team captain include…

• Regular socials (never catching me without a shiraz if we’re at the pub);
• Enrichment activities, e.g. cultural, musical, etc.;
• Incorporating any skills not necessarily salsa-related (…roundoffs?);
• Sending cat memes weekly to boost morale.

One huge reason for my dedication to the society is because of the friends I have made in it. Naturally, I believe it is essential to foster strong and wholesome connections and relationships.

This speaks to a more personal, individual level but also to the success of the team. And by success, I don’t only mean competition outcomes but also yielding friendships, memories and personal growth. In becoming team captain, this is what I aim to achieve.
