Musical theatre communities have always been where I find my people, regardless of the countries I have been in. Sharing memories and time spent during rehearsals and on stage creates a special connection, and that is why I love this form of performing arts so much.

One of the best decisions I made during my fresher's week was participating in the fresher's musical. Despite the limited rehearsal time, I connected with many lovely freshers and committee members, building lasting bonds. I feel very fortunate to be involved in both musical theatre productions (Lift and Chess) happening this term, serving as a cast member where I can truly commit as a performer alongside amazing cast members, and as a member of the production team where I focus on my organisational and creative aspects to support the cast members in delivering their best performances.

The Musical Theatre society has already become a core part of my university life, and seeing familiar faces from this society around campus has been delightful. As I always enjoy organising events and being an approachable representative at school, I am hoping to contribute to this amazing society and committee as a fresher.

Jake Bradbury

I believe musical theatre can be such a powerful art form that can bring such a wide variety of people in, and so I want to be a freshers representative in order to act as a bridge between new students and the committee, helping people to feel included and comfortable within a new family in musical theatre society.

As a recent fresher and active member of the musical theatre society (playing a lead role in Chess the musical) I believe that I am very well placed to be able to really listen to the voices of new students and reflect their needs to the committee, and create a positive impact both for freshers and the society as a whole.

I have a lot of experience not only in performance, but also in directing and managing shows, and so I know what it takes to support people and make everybody feel welcome - a skill I would love to be able to bring to this role.

Musical theatre has always been my biggest passion, and I hope I can use that passion to continually improve and manage an already incredible society.

Thank you :)

Beth Sankey

I want to be as involved in musical theatre as I can be. I had so much fun taking part in the freshers' musical and loved getting to know the other freshers. I've kept in contact with a lot of them and, as a result, I'm able to gauge their opinions on events and socials they want to see more of.

Having done musical theatre for years before coming to UCL, I can bring fresh ideas for society activities. I'm open to collaborating with the events officer and the rest of the committee to create the best experience for freshers and everyone else within musical theatre society.

Taking part in the Bloomsbury show Chess in this first term, I have gained a better understanding of how shows work within the society. Due to this, would love to help guide other freshers through the process which I know, from experience, can sometimes be daunting.

Musical theatre is my passion which I hope to pursue for my career so I feel that this position would be a great opportunity to meet other like-minded theatre fans and inspire a similar passion in other freshers.
