Dementia Research Society: Events Officer

Hello! My name is Larisa Morometescu and this year I’m running for the Events Officer and Media Officer positions within the committee of the Dementia Research Society. As a psychology final year student, I believe a position in the Dementia Research Society committee would give me the opportunity to apply my knowledge and skills towards raising awareness for dementia, especially within the UCL community.

As Events Officer, I plan organize non-academic events, socials and workshops for students who will learn about dementia without feeling the pressure of an academic environment. Here are some of the plans which I want to pursue as an Events Officer:

• Pub Quizzes: with the intention of making the idea of dementia less daunting, as well as increasing the interest in dementia through an activity that has united students for generations: grabbing a pint!
•  Workshops: led by Welfare Officers who can offer help and guidance to anyone affected by dementia, anyone who takes care of someone with this condition, or who just wants to know more about the subject.
• Socials: where students can take a break from the stress brought by exams or deadlines by socializing with the other members of the society.

As the current interim Social Events Officer, I believe I have the skills required to be the fun and efficient social events officer that DRS needs. As the prior sponsorship officer for UCL Anatomy society, I have relevant experience in being in a leadership role for an academic & research-oriented society. I am also the Vice President of the Bangla Society, which allows me to share my organisational and management skills with DRS to host fun events in the most efficient manner. I am passionate about neurodegenerative diseases, as a neuroscience student, especially dementia and would love to contribute to the society in any way I can, especially if it is through the planning of social events, which is something I love to do and have significant experience in doing. In high school, I was the prefect and the leader of the Science Club, both of which taught me skills that I can carry on in this society.
