Miriam Adebayo

Hi, I'm Miriam and I'm a first-year Applied Medical Sciences student!

My academic journey has always been marked by a strong fascination in the sciences behind progressive medicine and disease. I am driven to become a part of the cohort of future pharmaceutical professionals and scientific researchers aiming to innovate the discipline of progressive medicine. Not only am I interested in the life sciences, I am inspired by it and eager to immerse myself in these disciplines. I find that scientific research is the backbone of human innovation and progression, whether it's through medical breakthroughs, tackling epidemic outbreaks (e.g. COVID 2020), or daily prescribed medicine.

I strongly believe I am a suitable fit for becoming the First-Year rep for the Life Sciences society - I am curious and dedicated to continuous learning, and I want to advocate to make healthcare and life science careers more accessible, as well as ensuring students are exposed to more opportunities where they can gain insight into these career fields. I am a member of the ACCSN network, Black Pharma, and the British Pharmacological society (BPS); as a representative of the Life Sciences society, I'd like to share the things I've learnt from the connections I've made with CEO's and experts within the bioscience industry, and to bridge the gap between UCL's Life Sciences society and various insight opportunities, hence why I think I'd be a valuable asset to the committee.

Thank you!

Keira Choy

Hi everyone! I’m Keira and I’m in my first year studying Biomedical Sciences :) I’ve enjoyed my first two months here at Life Sciences society, and truly value this community where we can bond with people who share the same passion - so I’d love to take part in the committee as a representative for freshers!

With my experiences in high school as a founder of two societies (Biotechnology society and Environmental Sustainability society), I have strong communication, event organisation, and collaborative skills, with experience in promoting activities, liasing, and connecting with external parties including guest speakers and alumni. I would love to connect with you all to better understand your areas of interest in life sciences and career aspirations, so we can  develop future events and guide future collaborations with different organisations and societies (such as hackathons, or simply fun networking events!). With my wide interest in life sciences topics, I believe I can contribute to designing future activities, such as group blog article writing, forming support groups of students with similar career aspirations (eg. start a project together), workshops on different life sciences topics and on the latest breakthroughs and trends.

Thank you so much, and please vote for me if you’d like to see me be your first year representative!! <3

Amelia Tam

Starting university is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming. As a First Year Representative, my primary goal is to ensure that every new student — no matter their course — feels connected and fully supported in all the incredible events the Life Sciences Society offers.

If elected I would aim to:

1. First-Year Connects: Community is a crucial part of university life. I will introduce small, informal socials for first-years to meet peers and form cross-course friendships, ensuring no one misses out on the fun community spirit.

2. Advocating for Diverse Career Pathways: I will expand career events by advocating for panels that explore less-represented sectors in Life Sciences, such as Biotech, Medical Writing, and Policy. This will help first-years explore diverse opportunities and shape their future careers.

3. Direct Representation and Feedback: I will act as a direct link between first-years and the committee, establishing open communication through anonymous polls and monthly check-ins for feedback and suggestions. This will ensure that both social and academic events are shaped around what first-years genuinely need.

I am ready to be an enthusiastic, reliable voice that helps every first-year expand their network, enhance their career prospects, and become an essential part of the Life Sciences community.
