Arhham Shah

I am standing for the position of Social Secretary in the UCL Physics Society because I am passionate about making mathematics more accessible and engaging to others. As a Theoretical Physics student, I have seen firsthand how physics is not only a powerful tool in understanding the universe, but also an integral part of our everyday lives. I want to share this enthusiasm with others and help bridge the gap between physics and the rest of the students.

Alongside my academic interests, I have practical experience in event planning, having worked as a freelance event organizer for social establishments in Mumbai for over a year. This experience has equipped me with the skills to plan, organize, and execute a wide range of events, from large gatherings to smaller, more interactive experiences. I believe these skills would be invaluable in curating events that inspire and engage UCL students in creative ways, whether it’s through workshops, math-related social events, or collaborative initiatives with other societies.

By combining my love for Physics with my event management experience, I aim to create events that make math more approachable and exciting for everyone, fostering a greater appreciation for its beauty and relevance in everyday life.

Jonny Cragg

My name is Jonny Cragg, and I'm a third year straight physics student. I've been in this society for 3 years now and I have a rapport with physics students and researchers at a wide variety of universities around the UK. I'd like to put that knowledge to good use in a role as one of the Physics Society's Social Secretaries.

From my experience as a Transition Mentor, I'm familiar with both the present and future of the physics society, and I'm aware of what events appeal to those just now joining the Physics Society.

The Physics society has been on a distinct upward trajectory since its association with the SU in 2023, and I intend to help it reach even further heights by organising a mix of chill social events for hanging out with like-minded individuals interested in physics, functions where you can learn more about potential career pathways such as last year's visit to the JET decommissioned fusion reactor, and opportunities to further both your understanding of physics and your connections within the field by chatting about physics with peers you may not have met before.

I believe that that a success of a society lies not only in it's ability to spark interests and connections that last within the walls of this university, but also to provide stepping stones to careers and friendships that will outlast your time here many times over.

Dhruv Naik

Hey everyone! I’m Dhruv, and I’m a third-year physics student.

In my time at UCL, it’s been amazing to see my fellow students develop and grow as people. Coming together as a community and maintaining a healthy work-life balance are things I consider to be most important. I want this for our community, and this has motivated me to run for social secretary!

In my opinion, this society excels in its academics. The plethora of panels, talks and seminars that are offered to students, for free nonetheless, is absolutely commendable and the committee has done brilliantly in securing these opportunities for us. However, we can’t have all work and no play! Our next steps should be to increase the social aspects of the society. As social secretary, I'd push to increase the frequency of our social events, holding biweekly pub socials, board game nights 5-6 times a term, and much more! I'd also push to hold public polls to take suggestions for our events, truly encouraging a sense of community and family within the society!

I’ve helped out extensively with the society these past months, having helped coordinate our recent board games and pub social nights, giving me a deep appreciation of the need for a strong team, the need of decisive leadership, and of course, the need of a good pint at the end of all it! As social secretary, I'd strive to bring these qualities to the committee.

Thank you all very much for your time, consideration, and vote, I look forward to serving our society well!

Ceren Baylan

Hi everyone! I am a second-year physics undergrad and I have been part of the Physics Society since last year. This year I have been attending almost every event of the society and I really enjoy being part of this community, therefore I want to help with the running of the society and with improving the wellbeing of students, especially during exam seasons. I plan to organise study sessions to help each other prepare, as well as organise activities to bring together the physics students, wind down from all the hard work or just chat. I think we all need a break sometimes (or free pizza).
