Defne Lal Kocer

I have been surf coaching for campers aged 7–17 during the summer for the past 3 years as well as being a biology representative. I believe I am a good listener and
As a welfare officer, I would like to provide an environment where any potential member could feel free to join and feel safe.
Being in my second year at UCL after a foundation year, I want to make sure that I create a safe zone where both new and old members can come with any issues or even just looking for an approachable face in the beginning. Studying a behavioral based subject myself, Neuroscience, I am interested in the subject of matter and would be a reliable source for any society related question or issue. I would love to be a welfare officer and create an engaging, social atmosphere in Behavioral Innovations society.

I am applying for Welfare Officer because I am passionate about organising resources and uniting ideas to create unique ways to enhance student well-being. Being a people person with an analytical mindset, I thrive on hearing novel ideas while providing constructive feedback or amalgamating them (e.g. in group projects) for innovation, which is invaluable in handling student initiatives and hearing student voices for inclusivity within our society. Such interpersonal skills will also enable me to establish symbiotic relationships with other societies as I aim to push for cross-collaboration in campaigns to get our name out there. However, I believe my biggest asset is my diverse academic background in management, law, and psychology, having taken a gap year to take university-level courses in these fields. My legal writing courses have equipped me with persuasive writing skills for crafting compelling arguments for funding applications. Being a welfare officer, I am excited to utilise my well-roundedness and diversified knowledge to formulate creative initiatives and events, such as a behavioural economics game night and a paint and sip, and assist with other tasks outside my role. All in all, I hope to bring positivity yet productivity and creativity to the committee by helping out both within and outside of my role duties wherever I can and at the best of my abilities, even with tasks people may not want to handle!

Sasha O'Brien

Hi everyone!!! :) My name is Sasha, I’m a third-year student studying Arts & Sciences with a focus on Psychology and Migration Studies. I am also half Peruvian/half British but lived in Germany my whole life. I would love to be Welfare Officer this year! <3

After volunteering in a refugee shelter full-time, I became interested in psychology, behaviour change and migrant mental health. This prompted me to take many psychology modules at UCL, in particular enjoying two health psychology and behaviour change modules, and continue in the psychology field after graduation. I hope to translate these interests and values learned to appropriately manage welfare concerns in our society. I hope to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable and content. With a background in Psychology, I am well-informed on welfare concerns and want everyone to feel that they can always come to me with any problem.

Thank you for your support, I am excited about the journey that lies ahead and meeting like-minded people!
