artsUCL Awards Panel

Last year, I had the privilege of serving as your Arts Officer. In this role, I hosted these awards and was lucky enough to win a couple myself! I was also the President of Stage Crew society, where I was able to meet so many great people and see every part of what makes a show work.

This ceremony is so important, as it's one of the few times we can all get together and appreciate just how amazing the things that we do really are, with the assistance of some free drinks of course.

I've been part of artsUCL at every level, whether that's as a performer, a creative, an audience member, running an ensemble, getting our priorities across to key staff, or doing the admin that makes these productions tick so smoothly. I was also lucky to play a part in setting up the new Media Suite, giving our student media outlets the high-quality facilities they deserve (Soc Bitch must thrive!)

I'd love to be a part of this panel again, recognising the heroic efforts from so many of us that make artsUCL a home for everyone.

Hi! I'm Tom, the current Interim President of Stage Crew Society.

As President (and Vice-President before that) of Stage Crew, I help lead the society often described as the "Heart of ArtsUCL". As such, I sit in a great position to sit on this panel as I've been involved in some capacity with every Bloomsbury Theatre show and have seen them all. This means that I have a fair representation of all the shows and the hard work and commitment of those involved with each show. This also means I interact with many people across ArtsUCL and feel I am in a good place to represent their views.

Last year, I did the lighting design for the Union Awards shows (yes, those dramatic beam moments were my doing!), and I fully understand the show's format, the nomination process, and how decisions are made. I also have a strong relationship with the union to carry out this capacity and work alongside them to make decisions. 

I am a member of Musical Theatre Society. This year, I was on the Production Team of both small shows, and I have seen several other small show productions around and off campus. This means I understand the hard work that goes into all these smaller shows. 

Outside of university, I hold several positions within the Scout Association, including Deputy Youth Commissioner for Hampshire. I redesigned and marketed an awards campaign to recognise our volunteers, so I am used to judging nominations and deciding on winners fairly and justly.

It would be mildly funny to have a Juggling and Circus guy on the awards panel (terrible news for everyone else).

I have been heavily involved with artsUCL this year, performing in shows for Live Music, Drama, Jazz and Musical Theatre societies and acting as a Lifestyle & Culture editor for Pi Media. I would love to help recognise the success of everyone involved in productions and publications through being on the panel for the Arts Awards.

I have seen almost all of this year's Blooms shows and many of the small shows/showcases as well, and having attended last year's awards, I know the structure well and am able to attest to what it takes to be recognised in such a capacity. I have been privy to much of the hard work put in by committees, prod teams and performers in lots of the arts societies this year, so to be able to help celebrate this would be an honour!

Having been heavily involved in ArtsUCL over the last 3 years I would love to be involved on the Awards Panel this year!

Last year I was the recipient of the Best Individual Performance award and also received Arts Colours so I am familiar with the awards structure and also what it takes to put in the work to be awarded with one. 

 

I am currently Vice President of Music Society so I have also been heavily involved with the organisational side of events and have experience behind the scenes.

I have seen almost every Blooms Show this year and been involved in many productions, both on stage and from within the Prod Teams. 

artsUCL has been my whole life the past two years and I would love to help recognise the successes of artsUCL societies this year. I live for music, performing arts and the stage!

As treasurer of Music Society, I know the structure of the SU and the awards panel well. I want to be able to put my knowledge of helping run an artsUCL society to use for the panel. I know the amount of work, both behind-the-scenes and on stage, that goes into each and every event and that is why it is so important to recognise all our peers and friends! 

I have also been heavily involved in blooms productions, such as music soc's opera and participated in others societies' blooms productions, such as Dance Soc's 'Interlinked'. The difference in each production is something to value: I was amazed at the creativity of dance soc and will admit to magpieing some of their brilliant ideas for opera's production! artsUCL is fundamentally collaborative: recognising the differences, uniqueness and ideas of each production makes us all very lucky spectators. As such, I have also seen almost every single student production at blooms!
