Tom Hughes

Hi! I'm Tom, the current Interim President of Stage Crew Society.

As President (and Vice-President before that) of Stage Crew, I help lead the society often described as the "Heart of ArtsUCL". As such, I sit in a great position to sit on this panel as I've been involved in some capacity with every Bloomsbury Theatre show and have seen them all. This means that I have a fair representation of all the shows and the hard work and commitment of those involved with each show. This also means I interact with many people across ArtsUCL and feel I am in a good place to represent their views.

Last year, I did the lighting design for the Union Awards shows (yes, those dramatic beam moments were my doing!), and I fully understand the show's format, the nomination process, and how decisions are made. I also have a strong relationship with the union to carry out this capacity and work alongside them to make decisions. 

I am a member of Musical Theatre Society. This year, I was on the Production Team of both small shows, and I have seen several other small show productions around and off campus. This means I understand the hard work that goes into all these smaller shows. 

Outside of university, I hold several positions within the Scout Association, including Deputy Youth Commissioner for Hampshire. I redesigned and marketed an awards campaign to recognise our volunteers, so I am used to judging nominations and deciding on winners fairly and justly.
