Ku soo dhawaada! Welcome to the official page of UCL Somali Society (SomSoc).
Dhaqan celis without the celis. We aim to create a safe space and community for all by organising activities and events that showcase our Somali culture and everyone is welcome. Our society is open to all students that want to stay connected to their culture or want to learn a new one.
Our society is dedicated to increasing the understanding of the Somali people, their language, culture and heritage. We aim to create a safe space for all Somali students and anyone interested in learning about the Somali heritage. Somali society provides a platform to learn more about the rich culture whilst making lifelong friends through a variety of exciting events held regularly throughout the year. Join us for endless cultural and games nights, charity events and exciting debates!
As much as we enjoy the events we do for the members within our society we believe that purpose of our society is more than just having a fun time. We have a strong desire to give back to our community through outreach projects such as our award winning dadaal project. This project is made to give students from a BME background the opportunity to gain an insight into top universities using workshops, in which the main objective is essentially giving younger students opportunities to fulfil their potential. Also, the UCL Somali society last year was awarded for the third time in a row the February fundraiser winners for raising £28,307.15 in one month to help rebuild hospitals and schools in Somalia. We take pride in giving back to our community as we feel like we are the future of our country and we will continue to pass on those morals to the future leaders of our society.
