Are you an actor, director, designer, producer, aspiring academic, or over-achieving humanities student - or do you just really like Shakespeare? Then you should join Shakespeare society, the only UCL society that is Shakespeare society!
Newly founded in 2022, our company aims to celebrate the works of William Shakespeare, and especially to elevate diverse and unique reinterpretations of his plays. Everyone is welcome, with lots of opportunities in the coming year to get involved or just quietly enjoy some Shakespeare.
Keep an eye out for regular Shakesoc events, including:
- Monthly open discussion forums created as a space for anyone to teach and learn about Shakespearean interpretation, and to collaboratively develop our big shows - no need to be involved in theatre to attend!
- Regular workshops exploring how to approach Shakespeare as a theatre-maker.
- Regular playwatches, including both casual viewings at UCL of recorded performances, and trips to Shakespeare plays at theatres around London.
- Our summer monologue and scene festival, open to all directors and actors.
And especially, look out for news about our upcoming big shows for 2022/23; exciting interpretations of King Lear and Much Ado About Nothing, as well as a table-read of a yet-to-be-decided play!
