Welcome to RUMS Rugby , the rugby union team of the Royal Free, University College, and Middlesex Medical Students' Society and UCL's highest ranked rugby club. We welcome students from all courses at University College London. We are an active and inclusive club and welcome players of all skills levels, whether you've played rugby all your life or just want to give it a try.
We train weekly at Regent's Park, a short walk from halls and main campus, with sessions run by our level 3 coach. Training takes places on a Sunday and fixtures are typically on a Wednesday. Training sessions are a mixture of skills, fitness, mapping and conditioned games.
We currently have two teams that compete in various competitions, both teams compete weekly in the BUCS league and play BUCS cup games. Each year, we also participate in the United Hospitals Cup, the oldest rugby competition in the world. We also attend numerous 7s competitions either end of the 15s season.
We have had recent success in the UH cup, winning in 2025, 2018 and 2015, making the final in 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2024 as well as being the current champions of UH 7s. We also have some more social games, our undergraduate/preclinical team plays a yearly fixture against alumni as well as the Bill Smiths memorial cup at Regent's Park, attracting crowds of hundreds to watch!
We have a lively social calendar throughout the year. There are a huge range of social events to get involved in, many of which are joint socials with other RUMS sports clubs. SportsNight takes place on a Wednesday and you'll be able to find RUMS rugby in Mully's for an evening full of fun; it's the perfect opportunity to get to know other people and make new friends!
