RUMS Rugby. The rugby union team of the Royal Free, University College, and Middlesex Medical Students' Society. All courses are welcome. All skill levels are welcome. Everyone is welcome here!
Two competitive teams. Three tournements. Two leagues. One varsity. Not only do both teams take part in competitive weekly fixtures but we have numerous competitions we work towards. The United Hospital (UH) Cup- the oldest rugby competition in the world played between the 5 London medical schools that several hundreds come out to watch (we last won in 2025, we're gunning for that success again). The UH shield- the 2s equivalent. The BUCS Cup- a nationwide competition; we'll be playing the south eastern pool. Varsity- against KCLs medical rugby club. Finally, after the 15s season, 7s begins!
Some social fixtures also occur. Bill Smith's- year 1s vs year 2s. Both teams make a kit, design a promotional video (e.g., we went to dublin for 23 hours for ours haha) and play a game with a couple twists that I won't spoil here. Everyone's mates come down, we raise a bunch of money for charity and have some dinner socials for after. Old Boy's Day- alumni vs students. Absolute carnage followed by a curry. Enough game talk, we have a lively social calendar throughout the year as well (as do all sports clubs of course). Every wednesday is RUMS SportsNight and Mulley's gets taken over. Not only will you have a great laugh, but you can meet so many people outside of rugby! Being part of RUMS rugby means you're apart of RUMS as a wider community. Many socials happen between clubs. Many large scale events happen e.g., Sports Ball. Many of my best mates and memories have been made because of it. It's really an amazing thing to get involved with!
Finally logistics.
- Where do we train? Regent's Park, right on campus.
- When do we train? Sundays and Wednesdays 2-4pm (assuming no fixtures are scheduled).
- Who's training us? Paolo, our level 3 coach.
- What if I want more? Our newly created training secretary will be hosting extra complimentary sessions before training and on certain days.
