Our Mission

Ingenium exists to bridge the gap between what you learn in lectures and what real engineers do in practice. We run structured, interdisciplinary projects where students work in teams to design, prototype, manufacture and test real systems — with mentoring, design reviews and access to technical resources along the way.

Whether you’re a first‑year looking to gain experience or a senior student wanting to lead and mentor, Ingenium gives you the chance to develop technical skills, teamwork, leadership and real project experience that stands out on your CV.

Alongside projects, we run practical masterclasses (CAD, design for manufacture, systems engineering, electronics, etc.) and social events that bring together engineers from across UCL.

Current Projects

🚗 Autonomous Path‑Following Vehicle

Design and build a vehicle that can navigate a maze using sensors, control systems and mechanical design. You’ll work on:

  • CAD and mechanical design
  • Electronics and control systems
  • Prototyping, testing and iteration
  • Real‑world engineering problem solving

💧 Water Sanitation & Clean Drinking Technology

Teams will design devices to purify contaminated water and make it safe to drink. The strongest design will be selected and developed into a final product in collaboration with an NGO operating in rural Africa — giving students the chance to create genuine social impact through engineering.

Why Join Ingenium?

Build real engineering experience, not just attend meetings. Ingenium gives you the chance to work on hands‑on, team‑based engineering projects that mirror how engineering is done in industry — from early design and prototyping through to testing and delivery.

Open to all experience levels. Whether you’re a first‑year trying to gain practical skills or a senior student looking to lead and mentor, Ingenium is structured so everyone can contribute meaningfully and grow.

Boost your CV with real outcomes. You’ll finish projects with tangible results — prototypes, designs, technical documentation and teamwork experience you can confidently talk about in interviews.

Learn skills that lectures don’t always cover. Through masterclasses, design reviews and mentoring, you’ll develop practical skills like CAD, DFMA, systems thinking, electronics and project management.

Be part of a motivated engineering community. Ingenium brings together students from across UCL who enjoy building, problem‑solving and working in teams — alongside regular socials and full‑society events.

Create real impact. From competition projects to social-impact engineering, Ingenium lets you apply your skills to challenges that matter, locally and globally.
